Transmission Line Protection using Distance Relay
Industrialization in Pakistan is growing rapidly. The usage of energy is also increasing day by day. Therefore high generation is required. But in all that process protection is much more needed as dangers are also increasing. Generally, this project is based on detection of fault current which occurs during transmission and then protection of the transmission system by using above mentioned relay which we will be working on. Distance relay can be employed as a primary as well as backup protection. It is very commonly used in the protection of transmission lines. Distance relays are used for both phase fault and ground fault protection, and they provide higher speed for clearing the fault. We are trying to design improved version of distance relay where we will try to minimize the reacting time as much as possible while using the most economical solution. We will make it so that the relay will try to remove the fault from the system and when there is no fault present it will make the system online again.

Passive filters will also be used while designing the mentioned relay.
Distance protection relay principle differs from other forms of protection because their performance does not depend on the magnitude of the current or voltage in the protective circuit but it depends on the ratio of these two quantities. Also sometimes due to fault current the impedence of transmission lines alos changes. Therefore, in order to coorporate all these variables which can detect the fault current as well as change in impedence of transmission line and protect the circuit from the harm.
The designed relay will provide faster protection to systems at economical price as compared to typical distance relays available in the markets.It will have the capacity to make the system live again when there is no fault remaining in the system. Passive filters will also be used while designing the mentioned relay therefore understanding the concepts and working will not be difficult.
