Project Summary

OnSpot Cure is a smart patient monitoring system that provides remote monitoring from the patient's location to the doctors. Traditional health monitoring systems monitor patients by admitting them to the hospital. When a patient is admitted to the hospital, the guardians are concerned about their patients and are unable to continue working due to mental stress, as elders are hospitalized for lengthy periods, and are also reluctant to visit the hospital. Furthermore, hospital expense is also the biggest concern for a long stay in the hospital. In the present Covid19 situation, when hospitals are overburdened with coronavirus patients, using Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) devices to provide services to patients remotely makes a lot of sense.

Therefore, there is a need for remote patient monitoring. OnSpot Cure provides a device named Remote Cure (RCure) for patients to take home and show the vital sign results to the doctor's screen so that it can be monitored and prescribed treatment by a doctor.

OnSpot Cure starts with activating the patient health monitoring device remotely. OnSpot Cure uses Arduino which employs various sensors to detect health issues. A patient’s vital signs data can be used to continuously monitor a patient's condition or to collect sensory data that can be processed for medical diagnosis. After the collection of data from sensors, the patient's current condition will be updated to mobile and web applications. If a patient's condition is uncertain, then it generates an alert to a doctor. A doctor will prescribe medicine and also provide treatment. The patient's medical history will be maintained. A mobile application will generate alerts for abnormal vital signs. OnSpot Cure can also evaluate real-time data more precisely, allowing it to spot abnormal or irregular results more quickly and correctly.

Project Objectives

Patient care has become a concern as a result of Covid19 and its derivatives, as there is sometimes no space in hospitals and there is no qualified staff available. We might be able to undertake real-time monitoring using OnSpot Cure. Patients with chronic illnesses or other disabilities, as well as the elderly, are targeted for remote patient monitoring. All of these patients have problems that should be monitored on a regular basis. The OnSpot Cure will meet the following objectives:

  • The doctor can access the patient's data from a remote location.
  • The patient can seek guidance from a skilled doctor at their destination.
  • The patient can be facilitated at their home spot.
  • The doctor and the patient can keep a record of their interactions.

Project Implementation Method

In OnSpot Cure, the software and hardware components will be built. It consists of mobile and web applications. In the first phase, we gather requirements, then design and architect the system, and finally build a prototype. After that, we will begin with the development of our database, followed by the assembly of our hardware for data collection. Temperature Sensor, Pulse Oximeter Sensor, ECG Sensor and Room temperature & humidity Sensor will be assembled using Arduino and ESP32 microcontrollers. For device security purpose, Global Positioning System (GPS) will be used. The SSD will be used to speed up the system's data processing. In the event of an emergency, the alert bell will sound. Following the assembly of the hardware, we will design a mobile application, and then we will integrate the hardware and mobile app. After that, we'll start working on a web app with database connectivity. We will integrate the web app with hardware after it has been successfully developed. Also, Graphic Processing Unit (GPU) will be used in the system to increase the throughput of data. After the completion of the system, the system will be tested by various users and, if necessary, changes will be made. Then it will be installed on the site.

In a backend, java will be used to exchange and retrieve data from Remote Cure (RCure) device. Java provides secure streaming and plugs real-time IoMT data between device and application. In a frontend, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript will be used.  Android studio will be used to develop a mobile application in which java and XML are used.

The database will be maintained by using SQL. Php will be used to connect website and mobile applications to the database.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The OnSpot Cure system consists of an RCure device with four sensors. Sensors include the following:

  • The temperature of the patient's body will be determined using non-contact body temperature.
  • The patient's heart rate and oxygen saturation will be measured using a pulse and SPO2 sensor.
  • The ECG sensor will be used to detect the patient's irregular heart rates.
  • Temperature and relative humidity affect the survival of viruses, bacteria, and fungi in the air; hence a room temperature and humidity sensor will be employed.
  • GPS sensor will be used to collect spatial-temporal data of the RCure device.
  • The SSD will be used to speed up the system's data processing.
  • In the event of an emergency, the alert bell will sound.
  • For high-value real-time data and to display continuous ECG graphs of numerous patients at the same time, a GPU will be used.

The data from the sensors will be retrieved using Arduino and ESP32 microcontrollers. The information will be saved in a database and made available to doctors and patients via mobile and web applications. The doctor will be able to monitor the patient in real time. In Mobile application and Web application:

  • The patient current vital signs will be maintained.
  • The doctor can see the vital signs of distant patients in real-time.
  • The doctor can prescribe medication based on the value of vital signs.
  • The doctor will be able to recommend immediate treatment.
  • For both the patient and the doctor, generate an alert for a vital sign imbalance.
  • Maintain a database with the patient's medical history.
  • Using the app, patients can schedule an appointment.
