Project Summary

Drone are formally known as unmanned aerial vehicle which is essentially a flying robot. It can be controlled by either pilot from ground or it can be autonomous. In the current scenario, hexacopter is controlled autonomously. This drone is capable of delivery package or product on time by using GPS module which gives co-ordinates to it.  
The hexacopter body is made-up carbon fiber material which makes its strong and light-weight. Six brushless motors which is connected to six arms of hexacopter. By using these motors hexacopter is capable of flight, change directions , elevation and tilt rapidly by simply manipulating how much voltage goes into the motors while it is in the air. An ArduPilot Mega is used in hexacopter. This autopilot can control fixed-wing aircraft, multi-rotor helicopters, as well as traditional helicopters.  It is a full autopilot capable for autonomous stabilization, waypoint based navigation and two way telemetry.

With the help of GPS co-ordinates will be given to hexacopter so that it can reach the destination. A gripper is attached beneath the frame of hexacopter so it can carry product of specified weight and starts the flight from the base station autonomously. 
During the flight, hexacopter follows the path according to co-ordinates which is given to it. When the drone is reached the destination it starts searching for a authentic person to whom product to be delivered. After detect a person it will take a picture and then process the image and detect him/her. If that person is authentic drone will deliver the package otherwise it will fly way back to the base station. Raspberry-Pi is used for image processing and the decision-making of product delivery. 

Project Objectives

Our aim is to design a hexa-copter which carry a limited weight product by using a griper and deliver it to the targeted location. This aerial vehicle is capable to do this autonomously because there is a navigation system install in it which gives co-ordinates to hexa-copter before it goes on flight. This concept has already given by many organization specifically Amazon and they've started work on it. This is a revolutionary concept and urge us to introduce it in Pakistan.

Project Implementation Method

  1. Firstly, we will assemble the body of hexacopter drone after calculation of required weight to be lifted by drone.
  2. Secondly, installation of BLDC motors with ESC( Electronic Speed Control).
  3. Flight testing of drone without load and with load.
  4. Start working on Navigation System and then implement this system on hexacopter with the help of Mission Planner.
  5. In the final stage, start image processing work so that drone detect the person to whom product to be delivered.

Our project has vast application which manifests it's significance like:

  • Grocery shop or shopping mart can deliver products by uploading co-ordinates of destination.

  • You can deliver medicines in case of need in hospitals or clinics without time constraint.

  • This project could save fuel consumption and time also.

  • It can be used in agriculture sector for sowing seeds and for irrigation purpose by collecting data through image processing.

  • It could be used as Fire Fighter.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Hexacopter contain six 500H Heli-motors which generate thurst to uplift the body along weight or package. However speed of motors control by ESCs which is connected to each motors.

APM 2.8 is connected with drone body frame which is flight controller. APM is responsible to provide drone flight information to the ground station. 

Raspberry Pie module 3 is used to detect the person and deliver package through camera. Camera capture the picture of person and process the image and then detect the person. If authentic person is detected then solenoid gripper drop down the package and back to base station.
