Project Summary

Problem Statement

Many doctors face difficulties when they need to consult or discuss the case of their patient with other doctors, while dealing with different types of burn cases in hospitals. Due to unavailability of a formal platform and a huge communication gap between the doctors of Pakistan, work and hardships of a significant amount of doctors remain unrecognized and most of the diseases do not have a proper cure to them.

There is a need for the doctors all over Pakistan to communicate with each other. There exist various number of ways of communication, but none of them are significantly organized for a formal discussion and are weak medium of communication. The Care Unit is a platform for doctors to get in touch with their peers in any area of the country and to stay updated with the research in their field and with the related news. This platform will allow the doctors to cooperate with each other on unique cases which will lead them towards effective results since it will bring practitioners from different backgrounds on one platform. It is an education academia liaison that is between Shalamar Hospital, Packages Ltd and FAST NUCES CFD.

Business Opportunity

The website will eliminate or minimize the communication gap between doctors of burn centers all over Pakistan. Not only it minimizes the communication gap but also encourages junior doctors to seek guidance from the senior doctors. The problem has been obtained from the industry i.e. Packages Limited and Shalamar Hospital who intent to provide a platform to the doctors. The platform provides a common ground to the doctors around the country.The intention is to create a platform that is flexible enough to be enhanced and modified according to the future needs.

Target Market

The target market for our web application is only those who are burn specialist doctors by their occupation. The area includes all the cities of Pakistan.There is no restriction for gender or religion. Target audience for this project is Packages Limited and Shalamar Hospital, through which we can reach to the target market.

User Environment

The people who want to discuss the details of various medical cases of their patients with other doctors will use this website. The end users of this website are the doctors of burn centers. End users have to know how to operate computer before using this website. As this is a website, it can be open or used on any type of computer or mobile, only internet is required for it. 

Project Objectives

        The major goals and objectives of our project are to:

• Develop a platform in order to facilitate the doctors of burn centers all over Pakistan.
• Help doctor to solve their issues through discussion with others.
• Generate a summary to help the doctors keep a track of discussions in short time.
• Junior doctors can seek guidance from senior ones.
• Doctors can easily access research work.

• Maintain Profile:

           Every doctor will have his/her own professional profile through which his colleagues can approach him, which is customizable according to the needs. 

• Research Forum:

           The doctors will upload their research papers which will be sorted according to doctor’s desires and needs. The doctor will be able to view his work or interest related research papers.

• Newsfeed:

           To provide the user with the updates and posts in the newsfeed, which are related to them, the newsfeed is a way through which all users are exposed to content posted on the network.

• User Privacy:

           To set the privacy of the users, every post of the user is public in his timeline, but the research papers and other personal data of the user will remain private.

• Summary Generation:

           The system will automatically generate an intelligent summary of a discussion if the discussion exceeds 24 hours. The practitioner who will initiate the discussion will have the authority to generate the summary even if it didn't exceed a day. 

• Recommend Papers:

           Based on the specializations and fields of interest of the doctors, the system will recommend research papers to every doctor to keep them updated and informed about the research areas in their domains.

• Storage Drive:

           Every doctor will be given a 5 GB storage space where he can store his research papers and personal files. A doctor will be able to share a document with his colleague if he intends to.

• ChatBot:

           This module will allow the doctors to discuss the topics separately with their colleagues. It will be ensured that their chats will remain private unless they intend to share with someone else.

Project Implementation Method

Before heading towards implementation of the project, we used agile principles throughout the whole process. Initially we started with the requirement elicitation to define the concrete requirements and analyze the feasibility of the project. After requirement specification, we moved towards the design phase that focused on solution of the problem and involved a set of diagrams to eliminate the ambiguities that might occur in the development phase.

The implementation phase of the project started off with the development of the interface for the website. The interface has been developed in Laravel. In parallel to the development of the interface, the independent modules were being developed as well.

To implement the backend for the project, the initial step is to acquire the dataset on which our machine learning models will train to provide efficient and intelligent results. After acquiring the complete dataset, we'll identify which machine learning algorithms are best for our training data. Based on these factors, we'll be developing our backend in python.

The maintainability, availability, portability, usability and safety of the system will be ensured during development and verified while testing and deployment phase.

Benefits of the Project

This project will be reducing a significant issue that leads to failures in almost every aspect that is communication gap. It will not only help the doctors to communicate with each other, it will also act like a bridge between the industry and academia. Resolving an issue and collaboration between the industries and education system are improving the relationships between the two extremes.

Creation of such a platform will be a friendly approach to acquiring large amount of datasets that can be used in the big data regime and can act as training data for many professional projects.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The final deliverable would be a website that will be compatible on any kind of digital device. The doctor will be requesting the admin to create an account for him on the website. The admin will create his account for with and hand him over the auto-generated password via his email. Once the account is handed over, he may change it according to his liking. If the doctor wants to discuss a case study or a scenario urgently, he may select the domains, categories or specific hospitals and generate an alert to notify the doctors so that they can suggest a solution as soon as possible.For a new comer in the website, a summary of the website would be available for him to read and catch up with the discussions as easly as possible.

In order to access and share the research papers, few research papers will be taken from the internet using data mining and machine learning technique.
