Project Summary

The portable battery-powered hybrid (Solar + Electric) power tiller machine was the subject of this study. Using a motorized tilling mechanism, traditional agriculture methods of farming can be done with less human work and at a lower cost. The hybrid power tiller uses a unique portable design to minimize the time, energy, and cost of tilling, enhancing agricultural output and efficiency. As a result, the primary goal of this project is to provide them with a more cost-effective and easy plowing process. The project's operation is based on a solar panel that creates electricity to power the mechanism that moves the tiller. To enable good soil gripping, the machine uses a wheel with welded angles. The wheel design was created to offer a tight grip on the soil that would allow the cultivator prongs to be dragged during the tilling process. The machine is turned on and off using a switch on the handle. The machine is powered by an electric motor that drives the pulling wheel using a sprocket chain configuration that receives feedback from a soil moisture sensor to automatically regulate the speed.

    • To develop the mechanical design.
    • To develop the Feedback control of DC motor using suitable control mechanism.
    • To utilize more renewable energy source.

Project Implementation Method

  • Switch to ON & OFF the Machine.
  • Firstly, battery operates the motor and start the operation.
  • Battery is charged by solar power during the operation.
  • Then sensors give feedback to the microcontroller about the volumetric content of water.
  • Then microcontroller operates the motor according to the feedback of the sensor.
  • Simply, speed of tiller machine depends upon the volumetric content of water in soil.
  • A sprocket chain arrangement to drive the pulling wheel.
  • Joint angles to provide efficient gripping on soil.
  • Provide a firm grip on soil strong enough to drag the cultivator forks while tilling process.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

From this experiment, when the sensor does not sense volumetric content of water in the soil. Then it give feedback to microcontroller to drive the motor on full speed because the soil is dry it need to drive the wheel faster but similarly when it sense the volumetric content of water in soil it automatically decrease the speed of soil by giving PWM signal to the motor driver.
