Project Summary

Hydroponic is different and unique way of cultivating vegetables. It is highly sensitive and controlled environment agriculture. It uses a Raspberry Pi to analyze readings from five different Sensors like temperature sensor, moisture sensor and humidity level sensor, water PH sensor and uses that data to optimize growing conditions for the desired plants being grown. Useful feedback is given to the user about the condition of the plants via an Android application, which also helps the user learn about gardening. It utilizes hydroponics, a more efficient method for growing plants than traditional potted soil. Everything from lighting and watering cycles to nutrient and pH regulation is automated, as to make it simple for anybody to grow plants. All you have to do is plant your seeds and press go. System will automatically control the environment.

Project Implementation Method

System will automatically control the environment. For this purpose, hardware installation, hydroponic manufacturing process and micro-controller circuits are used which are used to detect the temperature, moisture, humidity and ph value. The output of the system obtained from the sensor and processor collaboration through Android app is in digital form. A network using Wi-Fi technology can transmit the information of sensor modules to another location. System includes Internet of Things (IoT); Raspberry Pi, temperature sensor, Humidity sensor, moisture sensor and ph sensor. Here the sensing devices are connected to the embedded computing system to monitor the fluctuation of parameters like temperature, humidity and mosturization present in the environment. The working performance of the proposed model is evaluated using prototype implementation, consisting of microcontroller/raspberry pi, sensor devices and Android studio with Arduino hardware support package. And the raspberry pi is used to control the entire system.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The smart hydroponic system consists of the raspberry pi based on microcontroller which is used to control the entire system. The system uses temperature sensor which is used to measure the temperature of the environment and converts the input data into electronic data to record and monitor temperature changes. And also uses humidity sensor which is used to measure the humidity present in the environment.  Soil Moisture Sensor uses capacitance to measure the water content of soil (by measuring the dielectric permittivity of the soil. Ph sensor to measure the amount of alkalinity and acidity in water. These sensors interact with raspberry pi which processes this data and then transmit it over the mobile application. To send the data over remote location WIFI modem is also installed. This concept of IOT is beneficial for the welfare of the society. And it is implemented using the latest technology.

  • sensor values in analog form .
  • A graph with data for each sensor/actuators.
  • Configuration of sensors done through Android STUDIO For Android App.
  • Breadboard is the main hub of all the sensors
  • We configured the sensors in such a way that it gives us the understandable  values.
  • All the values are then shown in both forms( graphical and analog)   in  Android App.
