Project Title
Sewbot
Project Area of Specialization RoboticsProject Summary The system that is proposed is basically a computerized control of cutting and sewing process to get more accurate, precise and time saving stitching. Following amendments are being carried out in the proposed system than conventional system. Computerized Numerical Control: In the proposed system CNC is being used as to automate a sewing assembly this is the best possible way to perform it. A controller is being used in this named ESP32 to control the sewing process, stepper motors, linear guide, thread rods, power supply and drivers are aiding the design but most importantly the bed for each product is different. CNC bed designing: As tie is the product that is being made by this assembly so, the bed is designed accordingly. Portable Electric Sewing Machine: In the proposed system the tool that is being used for sewing is portable And electric as well. The reason why this tool is being chosen is it can move easily from one place to another and rather than moving the cloth it is preferable to move the tool on the cloth to obtain better results.Project Objectives Problem statement: From the advent of cloth looming and sewing till now there are many problems which are being identified and rectified by the technology now and then and the major problems in the developed countries now-a-days is the lack of manpower. One common problem of developed as well as underdeveloped countries is 15% of the cloth in making garments ends up filling the land or incinerate them. The question is why is it so? Well, the answer is quite obvious and that is human error while cutting and sewing. So, up to second revolution in industries there was no alternate for humans to perform the operation and the machines that were being used for looming, cutting or sewing purposes are dependent on human beings. But with the third era of revolution this concept of human interface is slowly being faded as automatic looming was being introduced. But the problem is still there that how one can save that 15% of the cloth? Plus, the average person wearing number of clothes in his/her life is also being inclined which eventually increase the demand and hence the problem of manpower in the textile field have also being aroused in the developed countries. So, the main problems of today’s textile industry is: 15% wastage of cloth from manufacturing to delivery as a sewed product. Skill full man power (in developed countries only) Rectification: As the problem statement clearly identifies the problem leads us to the solution which is making a robot which will perform cutting and sewing of a cloth. So, the aim of this project is to design a prototype of a robot which can perform cutting and sewing by its own with least human interface. Since, it will be a prototype so for that a tie will be used have 30’’(inches) length to demonstrate how will it actually work. So the summary of objectives is as follows: A prototype of cutting and sewing bot with least human interface. Project Implementation Method This design consists of two types of processes software frame work and hardware design. Software framework: The software frame of this kind of project is decided when the hardware is being made because CNC routers works on g-code and m-code. G-code is the graphical code that is being designed once the hardware frame work dimensions are decided as this machine is not a generalized machine and works only for tie manufacturing so dedicated g-code is being transferred to the controller by using a USB protocol. Hardware design: The hardware design of this prototype is specified to the tie manufacturing only. So the hardware designed as per tie making requirements.Benefits of the Project By automatic cutting and sewing the wastage of cloth will be rectified to a certain extent. Less labor cost. Efficient production of the products will be achieved with precision. Customized clothing will be easier.Technical Details of Final Deliverable Software Module: In this module, the software side of the machine is being discussed. Since it is a CNC machine so, it needs two processes to perform an operation on software side: CAD/CAM: Computer aided design means designing a hardware in any 3D software to simulate the operation. In this process, first of all, different architectural designs are being assumed and designed on any CAD software to testify the feasible design. Now, that design file is being converted to g-code (graphical code) to specify the geometric orientation of the design for the controller to understand, that is converted by CAM (computer aided manufacturing) process. Once g-code is being made it is transferred to the controller via an interpreter for the controller to understand the g-code as controller only understands .hex file and interpreter converts the g-code file to .hex format. From that point the controller gets the command and send it to other components via control signals to perform the desired operation. Hardware Module: The commands from computer are being fed to the controller by following a protocol and one by one controller will receive it and transfer it to the specific component. Hardware module consist of mainly a microcontroller, a CNC frame and bed, a sewing machine and three stepper motors. Tertiary Module: In this module, the supporting hardware and software modules are being discussed that are not the part of the purpose fulfilling but are necessary for the components that fulfill the purpose. Driver module: microcontroller is a command giving computer to the hardware. Since sometimes hardware that is being commanded by the controller needs more power to operate which is not possible for the controller to give as controllers are mostly low power devices. So, to fulfill the power need of those hardware components drivers are being used.
