Project Summary

Various interaction techniques are provided to allow users to interact with virtual learning environments. These interaction techniques improve their performance and learning but in a complex way. In this project, we will develop hierarchical iconic based interaction interface for gaining access to different modules within a 3D interactive Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). We will implement a 3D interactive biological VLE for secondary school level students by using Virtual Mustard Plant (VMP), where students interact by using 3D interactive device with the help of hierarchical iconic based interaction. The aim of this project is to provide an easy interaction interface to use hierarchical iconic based interaction technique by using 3D interactive device in an information-rich and complex 3D virtual environment.

Project Objectives

  • To provide 3D interaction interface with hierarchical iconic based interaction technique for information rich and complex 3D virtual environment.
  • To facilitate naive users by providing hierarchical iconic based interaction technique with each part of the plant in the virtual environment.
  • To provide detailed visual information about different parts of the plant.
  • To enhance students learning interest by hiding the irrelevant information and guessing the students learning.
  • To facilitate students by hierarchical iconic based interaction technique to gain micrscopic information about mustartd plant.

Project Implementation Method

The system will be implemented by using OpenGL (Graphics Library) and MS Visual Studio 16 software. Minimum processing  speed  of  1GHz having 2 GB of RAM is required to develop  the  project.  A Nintendo Wiimote  will be
used for 3D interaction  with  Virtual Mustard Plant and 3D screen for semi-immersiveness where he/she can
easily feel his/her physically presence in the virtual environment. The system  will be evaluated by metric and  intermediate level students  in  different  schools
and colleges with the proposed system.

Benefits of the Project

The  proposed project can play a pivotal role in the  upgrading
of education system in Pakistan. The introduction of this novel and  challenging technology in the educational institutes will explore and disclose new ways  for  the upcoming  students  and will provide them with  a sort of stimulus which will encourage and provoke them for further
exploration and  innovation in the field of education.  Through  this  way  the dignity and  honor of the educational institutions would also be enhanced.
Furthermore, it will also highlight the role of said technology
for students' basic conceptual ehancement.

  • Hardware and software based 3D interctive learning simulator.
  • Hierarchical Iconic based interaction interface.
  • Micrscopic information about different structure of mustard plant in 3D form.
  • Nintendi wiimote in 3D interaction and 3D screen for semi immersive environment.
  • It will be provided to educational institutions.
