Project Summary

This project has majorly two sections. First section comprises of power generation by solar and hydro in order to make project self-sufficient. Second section comprises of control and watering system in order to manage water storage and water flow towards plants.

The work flow of this system may be best understood by following flow instructions. 

  • Soil-moisture sensor senses the necessity of water and generate signals when water is needed. 
  • Controller check sensor’s signal and water storage level. 
  • Upon receiving signal from sensor, water is supplied to the plant by actuating particular actuator. 
  • Control system also check the electric power required to run the whole system. It observes the stored electricity as well as load consumption.
  • Normally electrical power is generated through solar power (during day time). 
  • Additional electrical power is generated by hydro by utilizing water flow.

Project Objectives

  • Efficient water supply management to deal with water crisis.
  • To make self-powered system to deal with power crisis.

Project Implementation Method

  • Design and development of smart irrigation system.
    • In the first phase, irrigation system will be made. It will comprises of several plants. Moister level of the plants will be sensed and water will be supplied accordingly.
  • Design and development of Hybrid Converter. (Solar + Hydro)
    • After the completion of irrigation system, the required power consumption will be measured. Second phase will comprises of designing and development of a power supply capable of handling at least twice of the required power consumption. This power supply will be made by using solar energy and hydro energy. For this, a hybrid converter will be designed and developed.
  • Fabrication of mechanical structure.
    • In the last phase, the required mechanical structure will be fabricated.

The technical details of Final Deliverable are as under.

Raspberry pi. Raspberry Pi 3 Model B was released in February 2016.in this project role of raspberry pi work is smartly control whole project .CPU,1.4 GHz 64/32-bit quad-core ARM Corte.Operating system linux And raspbian Power: 1.5 W (average when idle) to 6.7 W

Power supply. Input Frequency Range: 50 – 60Hz,Output Regulation. 5.7V to 12V Output Load Range: 0 – 3A
Operating/Storage Temperature, 0ºC ~+40ºC/ -20ºC~+70ºC,Operating/Storage Humidity: 20%~80%RH/10%~90%RH,Protection,Over Voltage/Short Circuit.

Dual-Input Converter.  in this project we are intigrate dual-input converter new topology for dual energy source conversion is presented. The topology is capable of interfacing sources of different voltage-current characteristics to a common load, while achieving a low part count. A fixed frequency switching strategy is investigated and the resulting operating modes are analyzed.
