Project Summary

Augmented reality (AR) takes the objects of the real world and ‘augment’ them i.e., creating a se se of
reality out of the computer-generated idea of the world. AR is basically a reality-based interactive
environment which takes information of the world like audio, video, effects etc., and processes it to
enhance the user world’s experience.

The idea is to develop an AR based android application using image processing and machine learning techniques,
that brings images to life which enhances the learning process and provides a better learning experience of the famous and renowned personalities, places and artifacts of Pakistan. It scans and detects the pictures of personalities, live objects and live architecture and creates a 3D model using AR techniques. Personalities telling their history and life's work, objects viewable in 3D, virtual tours of different buildings/architecture makes the application overall attractive and it’s a fun way to learn the history.

Project Objectives

The goal of the project is a product that makes people aware of how the country’s independence was
achieved with a talking figure of the personalities, virtual tours of different architectures and important objects, related to these personalities and places, telling about their story/history.

 The nature of this application will create a rather
increased sense of interest among users. Another perspective would be the guidance of kids and youth and
everyone else in general with an attractive interface.

Project Implementation Method

1) Talking personalities module:
The module of face detection will scan the image, identify it and will also identify facial action points i.e.,
eyes, eyebrows, nose and lips. The points identification will help us to work with the orientation of facial
point movements. Lip image extraction will be done using some technique(s) followed by text-to-speech
technique(s) in order to synthesize the voice of the character. The extracted image and the speech
collectively will help in lip syncing. The synthesized lip will then be super imposed on the character. The
character will begin telling his/her life's work. The project primarily involves upto this module.

2) Virtual Tour Module: 

This module will scan a certain area of a renowned building for example, Mazar-e-Quaid and will create a 3D model of it. Once created, that will be made available for anyone to use and see remotely and visit the tomb virtually.

3) Story of Famous Objects and Artifacts Module: 

For a good virtual tour not only the buildings and architecture need to be available but also the objects of that era and all the preserved artifacts are a necessity. This module will scan those artifacts and create the 3D model of those objects. These will be made available as well and will aid to the virtual tour. 

Benefits of the Project

As a product of historical importance, the selling point is that it can be used to guide regarding the history
of the most influential personalities of Pakistan Independence Movement. For instance, it can be used in
the museums, in schools for junior grade students or on days of national importance etc. This application
will not only make it easier to grasp the history of our beloved heroes of Pakistan for children or anyone
who is interested but also has an attractive UI which makes it interesting and immersive.

AR in learning and education sector has proven to be very efficient as it is being used by teachers to
explain the course contents, take quizzes etc. 

Furthermore, the virtual tours can be taken anywhere in the world which makes it all the more efficient as keeping close to our roots should be a given. 

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

1) SRS document:

A Software Requirements Specification (SRS) is a document that describes the nature of a project, software or application. It describes the intended purpose, requirements and nature of a software to be developed. It also includes the yield and cost of the software.

2) Design document :

Design Document is a written description of a software product that describes the architecture. It accompanies an architecture diagram with pointers to detailed feature specifications of smaller pieces of the design which outlines all parts of the software and how they will work.

3) Fidelity Diagrams:

It can be understood as the design blueprint for any interface, be it an app or a website. Its prime purpose is to give out a structure of design so as to carve a layout that best gives the direction to the user with the help of information which provides a thorough understanding and proper navigation of an interface. This stage is indispensable as it gives the designer an idea about the layout and user interactions without being overwhelmed with all the colors, visuals and above all, ‘design’.

4) Prototype

A prototype is an early sample, model, or release of a product built to test a concept or process or to act as a thing to be replicated or learned from.

5) Technical document

Technical document consists of the entire report of the project and the software specifications, functionalities and detailed working of each module. 

6) Code

As the name implies, this deliverable will contain the entire code of the project; the project itself.

7) Complete document

This document will contain the entire report as well as the user manul of the software.
