Despite the positive aspects of social media, one major disadvantage of social media is the fast spread misinformation through it. It is important to timely identify such misinformation. As manual identification would be laborious and tedious, automatic identification of misinformation is required.

Project Summary

Despite the positive aspects of social media, one major disadvantage of social media is the fast spread misinformation through it. It is important to timely identify such misinformation. As manual identification would be laborious and tedious, automatic identification of misinformation is required. This project will enable us to detect misinformation on Twitter. It will be useful as it will help audience from being misled by the misinformation and help them to check the authenticity of posts on twitter. This project will be helpful for the normal users to check posts for their authenticity, in addition it will be helpful for the NGOs, governmental and security institutions to automatically detect misinformation in time and guide the public about it. This problem will be solved using machine learning models. The application will be provided with labelled dataset about misinformation and it will use machine leaning models and will generate results showing authenticity of posts in form of trend graphs, word cloud and other demographics. Development of the project will be done using python and its lightweight framework Flask.

• Control wide spread of fake news on twitter.
• Analyze posts to spread of misinformation
• Develop an intelligent application to help users in identifying fake news on social media
• Provide an interface where users can check stats and demographics of trends on twitter.
• Display the useful information in an appropriate and attractive format like graphs, word clouds.

     

Project Implementation Method

Software Implementation

Software implementation includes development of the responsive web application that will provide information related to fake new conspiracies. Application will understand the labelled dataset provided by the user, perform analysis on it, gather tweets related to dataset from twitter. Application will allow the user to check trends of tweet on twitter or train different machine learning models on dataset, show different graphs, word clouds and demographics of trending tweets.

Benefits of the Project

These are benefits of my project:

1. People can learn about fake and other conspiracies on twitter.
2. Application will provide such detailed information that will help the users identify and differentiate fake news.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The technical deliverables for this project can be split into two parts.

Documentation

               Project documentation contains the requirements,                   project understanding, diagrams and user interface prototype with a test document.
