Project Summary

The product will be a web-based solution for managing outcome-based education system in universities. It will be designed to help the actors involved in managing the OBE system in doing their tasks and speedup the process as a result, increasing their productivity. It covers necessary tasks starting from managing data of students to the generation of both of their GPA and OBE transcripts at the end of each semester and then a final OBE transcript at the end of degree. Since it would allow the university to move from paper-intensive processes of managing the OBE system to a web-based system, the accuracy and efficiency of processes would improve significantly.
Apart from managing data and other activities which are done throughout the semester, the product would also provide some additional features such as academic issue tracking which would help the users to track down the issues which caused a student to fail in some course/CLO/PLO, etc. This feature would save a lot of time and effort of users that have to deal with such tasks on daily basis. The product would simplify many complex tasks of users and OBE system which include the management course profile and the mapping of CLO’s to PLO’s.

Project Objectives

Following are the project objectives:

1. Enable the teachers to evaluate students on the basis of outcomes of a course along with traditional exam marks.
2. Enable program managers, course advisors and HOD to track issues in the academic career of any student.
3. Enable teachers to see summary of their class’s performance in assessments.
4. Enable teachers to map their class activities to the CLO’s of their course.
5. Enable teachers to map CLO’s of their course to PLO’s of the program.
6. Generation of both OBE and GPA Transcripts

Project Implementation Method

The project is being implemented using an incremental approach with different modules being developed at each iteration.

Benefits of the Project

Engineers from Pakistan have to take multiple tests in order to qualify for jobs and higher education in foreign countries. Catalyst would bridge this gap by being developed in accordance with the Object Based Education System and as a result, helping engineering degree programs from Pakistan getting accredited not only here but abroad as well.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The solution would cater all the important requirements of academic faculty, namely teacher, program manager, course advisor and Head of department. There would also be panel for students. As far as the implementation of Outcome Based Education System is concerned, courses of each program would have CLOs mapped to the PLOs of that program. All the questions in exams and class activities would be linked to at least one CLO of that course. At the end of a semester, both GPA and OBE transcripts would be generated where OBE transcript would show the performance in CLOs of every course. At the end of program, an OBE transcript representing the performance in PLOs of that program would be generated.
