Iot Based Smart Waste Management System
It is a common observation that garbage bins placed in streets overflow due to abundant waste thrown every day. It creates infectious conditions for the peoples and pollutes the environment with a bad smell in the surroundings. This project aims to address the problem of waste management in cities. The proposed system will detect the level of garbage in the bins with the help of ultrasonic sensors. The system will also handle the emergency situation through fire detection in a bin using the temperature and humidity sensor. The system provides the capability of knowing the fill-level of each garbage bin in real time. The system will reduce the human effort and cost and will support the healthy environment.
Timely collecting and dumping the waste
Providing optimized routes for garbage collection
Generating alert in case of fire in any garbage bin
The project will be implemented by following bottom up design approach. The entire project will be divided into different modules and sub modules. The breakups of tasks create inter modular dependencies and that is why following order of the design and development became necessary during the implementation. The system will collect data of a particular node (bin) through ultrasonic sensors. The data/information regarding filling level of the bin will be available (to nearest garbage collecting unit) on android phone. The system will also provide the optimal route to the driver for collecting the waste from a particular garbage bin.
Realtime monitoring of garbage bins for waste management
Saving human time and cost of garbage collection
Supporting healthy environment
The proposed system will use the ultrasonic sensor and temperature sensor. Both sensors will be connected with the Arduino board for the collection of data. Arduino board will transmit the data over the network using Node MCU (ESP8266) Wi-Fi module. Dijkstra and short path first (SPF) algorithms will be used to find the optimized route for garbage collection.
The final deliverable will be consisted of three parts i.e. smart garbage bin (with the all required setup), android application, and web application.
