Inductively Coupled Wireless Mobile Charger
Project Area of Specialization Shared EconomyProject SummaryNowadays wired chargers are used to power electronic devices such as Mobile phones, laptops, Electric vehicles and other electronics devices. A cellphone is a device which connects people around the world and they can communicate with each other while millions of miles away from one another which makes a cellphone a very important electronic device. Time is money and one does not simply want to put mobile on charging and put work on hold. Charging the phone and giving time on that is a big problem. Due to the limitations of wired charging like power losses, risk of short circuit, inconvenient etc, the battery powered devices are facing technical problems. Keeping these problems in mind, our project team came up with innovative idea of charging phone wirelessly. Wireless power transfer (WPT) holds the promise of freeing us from these limitations, using this technology electronics devices can be powered wirelessly. Inductive power transfer (IPT) technique is used in charging pads developed by different companies like apple, Samsung etc. which although charges the device wirelessly, but the pads are not portable due to the restriction of alignment along with very short range usually in millimeters which makes them less efficient. The basic aim of this project is to propose the use of a simple, cheap and easiest technique for charging cell phones. Inductively coupled wireless power transfer is a new technology to transfer electrical power wirelessly between the source and load. It is a technique that we will be using to improve the range and efficiency of Wireless chargers and facilitate in adapting WPT as a permanent solution to wired charging . In comparison of IPT with Inductively Coupled-WPT the range will increase from few millimeters to inches as well as the efficiency increases notably.
Project Objectives- The basic objective/ aim of our project is to provide ease for every mobile phone user in facilatitating them in charging their devices more easily without the restrictions of wires.
-
Wireless Power transform holds the promise of freeing us from the tyranny of power cords. This technology is being incorporated into all kinds of devices and systems.
- make a mobile charger which can charge mobile phone wireless without the use of wires up to a range of upto 6 inches. A single powerful transmitter which transmits power wirelessly and a reciever which recieves this power from the transmitter and through the process of conversion provides it to your mobile phones.
EXPLANATION:
The above diagram shows the working of the wireless power transfer methodology in a block diagram, the input power to the system usually of 50 HZ is converted to DC voltage in the Rectifier block because we cannot transmit energy at very low frequency, so we need to convert this low frequency to high frequency so in order to transmit power we first convert AC to DC voltage and then convert this DC voltage into AC voltage ( High Frequency AC voltage ) in the high switching Amplifier Block which is used to convert DC voltage to high voltage AC.
A matching network is used to connect the RF amplifier output to the source coil efficiently. Class D or E switching power amplifiers are suitable in many applications and generally require an inductive load impedance for higher efficiency. The matching network present to transform the source resonator impedance, loaded by the coupling to the device resonator and output load, into such an impedance for the source amplifier. The magnetic field generated by the source coil couples with that of the device coil, causing energy generation on the secondary side. This energy is coupled out of the device coil to the matching network.
Now at the bottom of the block diagram the AC output power at the output terminal of the device resonator enters a second matching network used here to efficiently couple energy from the device resonator to the load. It can be a capacitor of the required value which is used at the secondary end as an impedance matching network. The output of the IMN then goes into a rectifier block where it is converted into a DC voltage as our load which can be a battery of a device operates at optimum DC voltage according to the user requirement. The matching circuit also uses the inductors connected in parallel or series to adjust the impedance but the problem with them is that they have very high resistive losses than the capacitors.
