Project Area of Specialization Shared EconomyProject SummaryGaido is a web-based consumer reviewing and socializing application. Users can give reviews about local businesses, share their experience of places they have visited and take suggestions and recommendations from other users. The application will keep track of users’ choices and opinions, and using different machine learning algorithms, suggest them various services for future. Furthermore, it will provide the users with a forum to initiate and participate in discussions about the products and services of various business organizations. The registered business organizations will get an opportunity to create and maintain their public profile via Gaido. Through this profile, they will be able to keep track of people who are talking about their products and services, see their reviews and get monthly reports based on users’ reactions about their services. Overall it serves users form all spheres either they are owners of small businesses, a large organization or a consumer. They can all connect with Gaido.
Project ObjectivesThe main goal of our system is to provide a unified platform for consumers and business organizations to review, rank and discuss a variety of services including places to visit and various products to use.Gaido aims to provide a platform combining multiple diverse forums together, to bring it all in one place, not only for consumers but for business organizations as well. The major objectives of our application include the following:
- Providing one single forum for all types of consumers to give reviews, get recommendations, and have discussions with other consumers.
- Giving the business organizations, a clear picture of their standing in market.
- Facilitating the businesses in getting to know what their customers want from them and understanding their needs better.
Gaido will be a web-based application built using php framework, Laravel. It will use MySQL database engine to store its data. We will also use R Studio for implementing machine learning algorithms in our system. Following hardware and software are required for the development of our project:
- Windows 10 PC’s for development
- XAMPP with Apache and MySQL servers
- Visual Studio Code
- Composer
- Git Bash
- R Studio
- Hosting service
The development of application will take place in different phases. In the first phase, the website’s infrastructure will be created using Laravel’s MVC Framework with the help of various tools including Visual Studio Code, Composer and Git Bash. The database will be created on MySQL and various machine learning algorithms will be created using both Laravel and R Studio. After the basic structure of the application is created, it will enter the second phase.
Second phase will be implementation and data collection. The website will be transferred to an online server to be hosted on the internet where people can access and use it. The data will be collected over a short period of time. This data will be used in phase three to help us improve our algorithms and enhance user experience.
After the application has been online for a short period, and a sizeable amount of data has been collected, phase three will begin. In this phase, both, the structure of application and its algorithms will be improved to achieve best results.
Benefits of the ProjectInternet has truly turned our world into a global village. People, now-a-days, not only like to give reviews and share their opinions, they also like to consult others online before using any products or service. During this past decade, the number of reviews posted on internet by consumers, has increased drastically and is still increasing. According to a survey, 88% of consumers trust online reviews. This encourages more and more people to join this community of online reviewers. Because of which, almost every business organization consults online reviews to help with their decision-making process to cater to the needs of their consumer.
Gaido will help serve both – the consumers as well as business organizations. For consumers, especially across Pakistan, it will minimize their efforts of going to multiple forums for different types of reviews and discussions by bringing it all in one place. For business organizations, it will provide a platform to keep check on their monthly progress, their rank in market and the needs of their customers.

Gaido targets two different kinds of users. It aims to serve them both in different ways. Therefore, its functionality will change for each kind. First category is of the consumers and second consists of the business organization. Each kind of user will be able to log in to the application using their dedicated user accounts, use Gaido’s various functions & features and connect with other users. To make an account, user will need to register first, choosing the type of account they will need and then entering the required personal information.
Consumers will be required to enter their name, location, gender email address etc. Business organizations will have to provide their name, logo, types of services they provide, location, etc.
After being registered users will be able to explore different features of our application. A consumer can give reviews about services of local business organizations. If the reviewed business is not registered already, a new user-based profile will be created for it. If it belongs to an already existing business organization, the new information will be linked to the profile of that business organization. Users can also initiate discussion with other users and ask them for recommendations. They can also ask the system for recommendations which will be done using our recommendation engine based on various machine learning algorithms. Consumers can also see reviews given by other users, discussions others are participating in and recommendations they have given. They will have option to visit public profiles of business organizations which contains their reviews, rating & ranks, and see the announcements they have posted. An unregistered user can also visit the site and view what others have posted. But to post something themselves, they will need to register first.
A business organization once registered, can see what the consumers have posted about them, either in form of reviews or in the form of discussion posts. They will get monthly reports about their progress, rank and what the users are talking about them. They can also view other organizations’ public profiles as well. Business organizations can post announcement for their consumers about different offers.
