Project Area of Specialization Computer ScienceProject SummaryThe fuel cost management system is a web-based application that enable airlines to manage their fuel, cost, and statistical views of the KPIs (Key Performance Indicator) regarding fuel data. We are going to develop Fuel Cost Management System that will aid employees in fuel management, fuel information capturing, analysis, and providing comprehensive management information for decision making in terms of strategic planning and operations to reduce fuel costs significantly. This project requires replacing the traditional file-based fuel cost management system. Stakeholders expect that with the help of this automated system, they can perform checks and balances on fuel-related problems like its ideal and actual consumption quantity, and cost. This project had commenced on Nov 8th, 2021 (start of the 7th semester) and will be completed on Oct 2022 (end of the 8th semester).
Project ObjectivesThe web application for Fuel Cost Management System will allow managing data related to fuel and provide:
- The pilot can perform CRUD operations (Create, Retrieve, Update and Delete)
- Fuel Cost Analysis (per flight, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually)
- Information on fuel Consumption per Flight
- Detailed visualization and statistics
For the implementation part we will use:
- MySQL Database
- PHP - Laravel Full-stack Framework that will allow us to integrate multiple APIs.
- Our project aims at replacing the conventional file-based system with a modern database system.
- With proper management, the system will aid in saving fuel thereby providing both environmental (ecofriendly) and financial benefits to the airlines.
- Along with the proper management of fuel, the system will be capable enough such that stakeholders can perform proper data analysis with the well-explained dashboard.
- A tremendous amount of fuel savings has been observed when the Fuel Cost Management System has been introduced.
Proposal defense: During 1st month we defended our final year project proposal and project title.
Literature Review: During the 2nd and 3rd months we worked on a literature review in which we covered 10 research papers related to our project and did the meeting with GM fuel Pakistan International Airline (PIA). In the meeting, we discussed the system requirements of the project and gather project-related data.
Software Requirement Specification: In the 4th month, we covered software requirement specification in which we covered system requirements, functional requirements, and non-functional requirements of the system.
Design: In the 5th month, we covered the designing part and created a database schema for our project.
Implementation: From the 6th month onward, we started the implementation part of the project. For this web-based project, we are using the PHP-Laravel framework. For proper visualization, statistics, and analysis purposes, we use Microsoft Power BI, a business intelligence tool.
Final Report: In the last phase, we will design a complete report of the project that will cover every phase of the project.
