From the Reference to the WEEE (Waste Electronic And Electrical Equipment) ,
Developing a recycling machine to maximize the recovery of valuable metal components for re-use and minimizing environmental impact. Metal-free organic waste can reduce the growing mass of waste from landfill. Billions of dollars worth of electronics end up in landfills each year.
Local generation of e-waste in Pakistan is calculated about 38 kt per year. The study reveals that 50 kt of e-waste is being imported as scrap to Pakistan. This study recommends need for effective monitoring & control of informal e-waste.
The problems associated with e-waste in Pakistan started evolving after the first phase of economic liberalization with an average GDP growth rate of 6.8% during the 1960s (Hussain, 2012, 2004). Pakistan was seen as a model of economic development around the world (Husain, 2005). Due to increasing population and purchasing capacity, there is currently an increasing demand for electronic goods industry in Pakistan, especially for home appliances (TV, refrigerator, washing machine, AC, ovens, etc.), telecommunication, IT, and computers. All major components in electrical equipment is imported or smuggled and, only assembled in Pakistan which means entire electronics and electrical appliances industry is running on imported parts (Bashar, 2000)
Thus we designed and want to implement a system (Electrostatic Seperator) that can effectively tackle the problem of recycling e-waste (mainly copper) in Pakistan at a reduced cost. Once successful, we can provide it to the local industries so that every resource can be utilized properly by them.
In an electrostatic separator, the granular mixture to
be separated is fed with a certain rate on the surface of a rotating grounded roll electrode
A high-intensity electric field is generated between this roll and one or several electrodes connected to a DC high-voltage supply.
The insulating particles are charged in the high-voltage field zone and are ‘‘pinned’’ to the surface of the
rotating roll electrode. The conducting particles are attracted by the high-voltage
electrode. Consequently, the list of factors influencing the electrostatic separation process should include
• High grade metal values (Pd, Pt, Au, Ag) from electronic scrap.
• Copper recovery from wire recycling plants.
• Mineral sorting by changing electric field.
• Scrubber dust metal recovery.
• Waste metal removal from plastic recycling
• Processing of telecommunications cables .
