An Climate Chamber is an enclosed space where climate conditions such as temperature and humidity can be controlled. Climate chambers allow manufacturers to stress their products in a single environment. A climate chamber allows testing the product in both a continental type climate, hot summers, and a Mediterranean climate with higher temperatures. Climate chambers, if properly calibrated, generate reliable results that simulate the performances of the product in its real life cycle.
Climate chambers test the prolonged effects of a varied range of temperatures to examine the behavior of the tested material in severe conditions that involve changing temperatures in relationship to variations in humidity. The size of a temperature chamber can range from a small, benchtop unit to a very large industrial unit, but should always maintain an even and accurate temperature throughout the chamber.
A climatic chamber, also known as a climate chamber or climate test chamber, is an enclosed space used to test the effects of specified climate conditions on biological items, industrial products, materials, and electronic devices and components.
A climate test chamber artificially replicates conditions which machinery, materials, devices or components might be exposed to. It is also used to accelerate the effects of exposure to the environment, sometimes at conditions not actually expected. Climate testing simulates the different climatic conditions and mechanical stress that products are exposed to during their lifetime. Climate testing will expose weaknesses in a product’s design or performance that could occur in service, particularly at extreme levels.
During testing, possible weaknesses can be identified and product improvements can be initiated at an early stage.
The main Objective of a climate chamber is to test the behavior of the products we use every day, in extreme climatic conditions. The following applications are examples of how a climatic chamber may be used…
A climate chamber provides a convenient way to subject sensor assemblies to both hot and cold environments, to see how and if they work at temperature extremes. A good climate chamber has a programmable controller that allows target temperatures to be set. In many cases the controller also allows a user to enter temperature profiles, which specify a sequence of conditions the oven will automatically generate.
After Researchers in the Material Science which material is used for the making of project? The chamber is constructed with Stainless steel plate because of its properties. It is very effective at high temperature. After developing of design specification we have to select the heater for temperature uniformity A high degree of Temperature Uniformity is required. The Temperature Uniformity Specification was therefore one of the most important design considerations, but also one of the most difficult to quantify. Since surface temperature uniformity depends on many factors and is material dependent, the group decided to install nichrome heater wire because it is very stable, even at high temperatures. Unlike other metals, it will not melt even when generating large amounts of heat. Ironically, nichrome actually has low electrical resistance, the property that causes the wire to heat. In most climate chambers, heat is generated by resistive heating elements. It is installed inside the chamber. The entire interior of the chamber is sealed with fiber glass.
Temperature measurement is an important consideration for our process we desired an instrument that would measure temperature accurately with minimum error. To automatically maintain the set point of temperature and humidity, a process controller is required to read and display the input signal from the temperature sensor.
PT 100 was chosen to measure the temperature. The instrument has a wide range of measurement with minimum error. A PID process controller was chosen to control the chamber. the controller accept a 4-20 ma input signal from the PT100 and send a 4-20 output signal to the power controller.
For humidity water tank is installed at side of chamber. Humidity is controlled by moisture air, when chamber required humidity water in tank is boiled by electric heater installed in tank. Eva pours made by boiling is transferred inside the chamber with sirocco fan which we installed outside the chamber. Humidity is controlled by humidity sensor M452. The XH-M452 Digital Temperature and Humidity 12VDC Controller, is used for the measurement and control of high precision temperature systems. The module runs on a 12VDC supply.
The main function of climate testing chambers, is to test the behavior of the products we use every day, in extreme climatic conditions. It is very important project because there is no one in Pakistan who is manufacturing climate chamber. It is very important in many fields now a days it become a part of every factory in aviation industry. Climate testing also helps demonstrate compliance of your products with international regulations, making it easier to access global markets. Climate testing also boosts trust in your products.
For example, a car that works very well in dry climates might not properly work in environments with high humidity.
Potentially, a climatic chamber can test any type of product, since everything that can be marketed must first undergo climatic tests, in order to confirm the features that the manufacturer is expecting or simply to comply with official regulations from regulatory bodies. From this point we can understand its important.
The most common applications are:
• Aerospace, Defense and Telecommunications: sectors requiring "extreme" tests with temperatures far above or below zero, shocks and vibrations, given the use that will be made of the finished product.
• Air Force, Defense and Telecommunications: areas that involve, in most cases, "extreme" tests with very high temperatures. above or below zero, shocks, shocks and particular vibrations, given the use that will be made of the finished product.
• Food and drinks: to determine the shelf life of products, the expiration date and time of resistance of food in the optimal conditions in which it left the factory. It also applies to packaging and to the packaging/product contact.
• Chemical/Cosmetic/Pharmaceutical: another area whose controls are particularly strict, given the direct involvement of human health: see our in-depth analysis. on the pharmaceutical sector and the ICH tests for the so-called stability test
• Building material Construction material: the buildings we live in are subjected to continuous and various types of stress, such as weathering. Building material can be affected a lot by these constant stresses.
After the completion of project, we expected to have test to study the effect of our project.
Before discussing the technical details, here is the list of equipment that will be used in this FYP:
Humidity The relative humidity in the chamber is measured by a capacitive humidity sensor and displayed digitally in percent. The measurement precision of the humidity sensor is 1 % rh ? Adjustment range: 88 to 97 % rh (for models with humidity module 40 to 97 % rh) ? Adjustment precision: 1 % rh ? Display range: 10 to 98 % rh ? Variation (time): max. ±1 % rh
