Project Title

Throwable UGV

Project Area of Specialization

Mechatronics Engineering

Project Summary

We will design and develop a miniature throwable UGV robot. Such a mechanical design will be selected which maximizes the robots anti-impact capability with minimum size. Furthermore, the robot will be using a rotatory camera, which greatly increases its scope, to survey its immediate surrounding and provide a visual feedback to the user regarding the target area. A peripheral port will be available and additional features to the robot if such a situational need arises. These additional features include range extension and flashlight. While designing the throwable UGV robot ease of maintenance will also be kept in mind therefore  an external removable battery was also incorporated into the mechanical design

Project Objectives

To create an unmaned ground surveilance vehicle that can be thrown from heights upto 10 meters without breakage and can provide uninterupted visual feedback to the user to a range upto 130  (possibly more) and make it easy to maintain and user friendly

Project Implementation Method

we will be using scrum methodology. Scrum works within the Agile framework to provide a specific set of rules for project management. This includes processes for identifying tasks, resources, completion dates, etc. Scrum is designed for fast delivery, with rapid feedback cycles and responsive change. Close collaboration is a primary element of this approach—teams work on sprints together and have short, daily standup meetings to report on progress. Each sprint must produce a usable product. Scrum is an iterative methodology that can be applied to smaller projects that involve a high level of productivity and require intensive refining.

Benefits of the Project

Over the years there has been emphasis in the development of small throwable robots for the purpose of secret reconnaissance and surveillance in sensitive areas such as hostage rescue, drug or ammunition raids, and responding to nuclear or chemical waste contamination. Their ease of deployment by means of throwing, shooting or air-delivery has made them quite desirable in such circumstances.Another benifit is its use to locate survivors during blasts or earthquake due to its small size and sturdy nature

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Rotating camera

A camera that can rotate at an angle of 180 degree up and down

Dynamic Ansys Analysis

Full body dynamic analysis of the ugv for best possible design

Auxiliary port for flashlight and range extender

A modifiable port that can house a range extender  that can increase the range when the extender is connected or a flash light to work in dark environments

Removeable battery

To add a battery that can be removed conviniently without opening the whole body

Redesigning body

completely redesign the body of ugv to lessen the impact on motors and circuitry after the fall
