Development of constitutive model of composite solid propellant and study its mechanical properties
The purpose of this project is to understand mechanical behavior of composite solid propellants and develop a constitutive model. Constitutive models describe the material responses to different mechanical and/or thermal loading conditions, which provide the stress–strain relations, together with the conservation laws and kinematic relations. Therefore, it’s important to understand how constitutive models are developed and how useful conclusions are drawn from a constitutive model. Composite modeling software Ansys and Abaqus were used to model composite solid propellant. Python codes were also utilized to develop constitutive model. In this project a systematic numerical program was conducted to understand the stress?strain behavior of a composite solid propellant after different set of experiments such as tensile, fatigue and creep under different loads and boundary conditions. The effects of accelerated aging time and pre-strain during aging on the mechanical behavior of the propellant were analyzed and a constitutive model was developed.
