Design of Wireless ECG System
Cardiovascular diseases are responsible for the death of 17.9 million people every year, representing 31% of all global deaths. These diseases manifest as heart attacks and strokes and in Pakistan, nearly 0.5 million people die due to cardiac arrest every year. In a country like Pakistan where heart problems are the major issue towards the hospitals, wireless ECG can prove to be a good help for doctors. In Pakistan, all ECG devices work on wires. Currently, it is prone to human health because wires are constantly getting in the way of medical personnel or the patient himself.
Wireless health-care monitoring has been expanding quickly over the ongoing years because of usability and availability. Wireless health-care monitoring has demonstrated to be one of the most proficient ways for ceaseless and far off following of the health status of patients.
An ECG is a noninvasive screen, which can be used to assess the heart's electrical movement, measure the rate and normality of pulses, the situation of the chambers, recognize any harm to the heart and examine the impact of medications and gadgets used to control the heart. This method is valuable for monitoring individuals with (or powerless to) impedances in their cardiovascular movement.
In this project, we present an easy, low power utilization, wireless ECG gadget. The gadget will have the option to distinguish the biopotential signals from the heart, measure those signals, and afterward wirelessly communicate them toward the screen. This wireless ECG machine will also be assisted by AI for the detection of certain incoming diseases and other important processes.
In our approach, we propose a model for wireless ECG monitoring systems and management. We propose a system in which a biopotential signal is picked from the body through sensors (electrodes). This signal is of very small magnitude which needs to be amplified for further processing. This amplification step has performed the module, the module also filters any noise added to the signal. After these operations, the signal is transmitted to the desired monitoring systems through the wireless module.
The monitoring system consists of an LCD on which the ECG signal will be displayed while a copy of the ECG report is sent to cloud storage for remote access.
Another important aspect that can be added to the Wireless ECG is Artificial Intelligence. As we know that artificial intelligence works like the human mind, we must train the network in order to become smarter. For this purpose, we train the networking by feeding it with different ECG reports from it can gain general information about the human cardiac system. After with, when an ECG is made through is AI-based ECG machine, it will start analyzing the report based on which it can give predictions about the cardiac condition of a patient. It will regard the report as normal or abnormal.
However, if some critical cases occur, such as the AI detects a serious abnormality in the ECG report where the patient needs immediate treatment, an emergency alert will be sent to the doctor. The information can be sent through a message or notification to the doctor.
Wireless ECG can help the doctors get rid of the wire ECG whereas minimizing the 12 probes of ECG to only 3. It can also prove helpful in saving patient life by keeping a record of his health condition and informing the doctor about any incoming heart problems such as stroke with the help of AI. It encompasses preventive, promotive, and curative aspects. This device will deal with the transmission of medical data or disease management as well as advice on the prevention of the disease and promotion of good health by patient monitoring and following up.
Cloud infrastructure will give the device an upper hand in storing its data online due to which the patient can access his/her ECG report from their home getting rid of the old system, where the patient had to wait in line or queue for their ECG reports.
The wireless ECG will contain 3 probes, these probes when attached to the patient body, detects the heart electrical signals, and will direct them to the display or monitor wirelessly. During this wireless transmission, one copy of data will be stored in the cloud for remote access, while another copy of data will be taken into the process by the Artificial Intelligence. After the AI starts the analysis of the data, it will compare the incoming data with the normal reports/data that will be fed to the AI. If the reports match with the normal the AI will declare the case as normal, if it detects any abnormalities in the graph sequence, it will automatically display a prompt message on the device screen to any nurse nearby while an alert message will also be sent to the concerned doctors for rapid action. The AI will also be fed with required medicine data for specific heart conditions thereby displaying the required dose or medicine to the nurses on screen in case of any emergency if the concerned cardiologist is not nearby.
