Project Summary

Conventional ice cream trikes are becoming inconvenient due to their wide span, heavy weight and less storage capacity. Inefficient mobility design causes infeasibility for narrow passages and crowded places which are the most demanding areas like markets, parks etc. Being human powered is exhaustive for longer work durations and hence demands more labor.
This project is aimed at providing an industrial solution to counter these drawbacks by designing a smart ice cream trike. An efficient mechanical, thermal and electrical design would be provided to give a compact and light weight design with increased storage capacity. An efficient, electrically powered, maneuverability design would enable it to effectively traverse congested areas. It will be human monitored/controlled and well equipped with safety features like obstacle detection, anti-theft system etc. These design features would benefit the company in terms of significantly increased sales/revenues, less labor/energy requirements and longer work durations while ensuring the safety of assets and stake holders.

Project Objectives

The main objective of our project is to develop an automated reliable transport vehicle that will help us transport our Ice creams at their freezing cold temperatures from the warehouse to the customer in a safe and convenient manner, this also includes but not limited to reducing the overall vehicle size but keeping constant the carrying volume. The battery pack also needs to be sustainable so as to provide power throughout the working hours. The project also caters for the health of our worker who is our utmost priority and the product is being developed keeping in view the ease and comfort of our worker, main achievable objective is the development of a model that would incorporate the battery pack, the motors used to run the tires of the vehicle, and also the for the safe and sound transport of our goods an antitheft alarm system is also being developed which would sound in case of a theft, we also use IR sensor which would identify any potholes or any other roadside things in our way.

Project Implementation Method

Implementation method of this project depends upon waterfall approach, the next phase of the project depends upon the completion of previous phase. The implementation starts with the structural and thermal analysis of the trike. Structural analysis ensures no fault in the mechanical frame of the structure and thermal analysis ensures the insulation of the trike.Then comes the mobility section of the project. which includes the wheel geometry and the layout of the wheels in the trike. After selection of the suitable wheels, empowerment of the wheels with the help of motors is the next step. Motors are attached to the shaft which gives power to the wheels. And Joy stick will be attached to the trike to give maneuverability to trike.

Benefits of the Project

The development of an automated Ice-cream trike that would run on batter powered motors instead of typical hydrocarbon fuels has got great benefits, basically our project is physically as well as economically viable, The physical viability comes out from the fact that the worker will not have to stress his muscles in order to run the trike, instead a battery operated motor system would do it, this would provide for the decrease in workers workload and he would give us maximum output, economic factor includes the improved sales due to better physical and health of the worker. We would also be targeting a cleaner fuel that is battery charge instead of using hydrocarbons that have been a major cause of global warming. The project would eventually be able to have the label of being made in Pakistan instead of being imported from the markets outside Pakistan. This would help playing a role in the development of Pakistan’s economic market and the competition inside Pakistan would increase which would make more and more companies utilize this product idea of ours. Mental health of the worker is also important to improve the image of brand in the customers, if they are happy they would treat customers with a smile and that would strengthen our image and help improve our sales. So all in all, The Physical health, the mental health, the economic factors both micro and macro, the fact that our product would be environment friendly all are the major benefits that we would be getting from this project.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Our final product will be one of the kind in its category. It will be portable size will let the company to cover remote areas. The rider will be given assistance with some features like obstacle detection and anti-theft system. The motorised system will be increasing the rider’s efficiency. The selection of insulation material will not only be cost efficient but energy efficient as well. The end product will be designed in a way that will mesmerising in front of customers and aesthetic in a way that full fills all aerodynamic requirements.
