Design And Fabrication Of Shoe Testing Machine
Our project is about a shoe testing machine that would test the life of a shoe by replicating the human foot motion. Our main focus was on the design of a machine for testing shoe life but in process we had to design a prosthetic ankle that has the mechanical behavior similar to that of a natural ankle, So we could get the output motion similar to the natural foot motion. We designed the ankle mechanism on Creo 4.0 by using network of compression springs. Those compression springs allows the ankle to have 2 DOF's which are required for the prosthetic ankle to behave like a natural ankle. After designing the prosthetic ankle on Creo 4.0, we designed the foot on Creo 4.0 and will fabricate it later on 3D printer. After completing the design process we will then move to the simulations part of our project. We will see the simulations result on ANSYS and then we will be using 3D printer and CNC machine for fabrication of foot and ankle. The other equipment required for our testing rig includes treadmill, load cell and motor. After completing the fabrication part we will then run the machine for testing the life of a shoe. We will be able to check the life of a shoe by abrasion resistance test. By measuring the amount of wear produced after completing the specific number of cycles we would be able to tell the life of a shoe.

This project is beneficial for the footwear industry. Footwear industries can use "Shoe Testing Rig" to test the shoe sample before they introduce it to the market. In this way they can improve the quality of their product.
We have also designed a prosthetic ankle in this project, in future we can further work on it and develop a complete prosthetic leg for amputees.
Shoe testing rig will be designed in such a way that it will mimic the human foot motion and we will run the "Shoe testing rig" for specific number of cycles or for specific time and then measure the wear produced in the shoe during that time. The amount of wear produced in the shoe sole will indicate the life of a shoe. In this way by using the abrasion resistance test we will be able to test the durability of the shoe.
