Design and Fabrication of LASER galvo scanner

The project consist of two tasks. First  XY galvanometer scanner will be used to project laser graphics using low power laser.In  second task XY galvanometer will be used for SLS 3D printing.

Project Objectives

Objectives consist of two parts

1) First task was to implement XY galvanometer scanner for laser projection.

2)The second task is to implement XY galvanometer scanner for selective laser sintering (SLS) printing (another group is working on bed for printing).

Project Implementation Method

Methodology for laser graphics is :

1)Component selection and hardware implementation.

2) 2D model.

3)G-code generation / custom code.

3)Conversion of G-code to electrical signal.

4)Deflection of laser beam for laser graphics.

Methodology for SLS printing is :

1)Component selection and hardware implementation.

2)3D CAD model to be manufactured.

3)Slicing of 3D model.

4)Conversion of G-code to electrical signals.

5)Deflection of laser beam for each slice.

Benefits of the Project

1)Galvos are used for rapid printing of 3D objects.

2)Using SLS printing very complex objects can be printed in one go.

3)Using CO2 laser final printed product will have 92% of its density.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

For laser graphics

1)galvo scanner (sc-17 15k). 15k is the speed of galvo which is 15000 points per second

2)Laser diode 3.3V

3)Arduino nano

4)MCP4822 DAC 16 bit

For SLS printing

1)Galvoscan head + f-theta lens (15*15 output area and 192mm focal length.

2)CO2 laser 40watt

3)Mirrors (gold plated for high power CO2  laser)

4)Power supply for CO2 laser.

5)Teensy 3.2 (for XY2-100 communication with digital galvo scan head)
