Design And Developement Of Land Surveying Robot System
We have designed and developed a robot system that performs the survey of the land and to find out the distances and elevation parameters between two points of the land. It consists of two robots one is fixed robot and the other is navigating robot and is designed for semi rough terrain. The fixed station robot consists of a tripod stand and pan and tilt mechanism mounted on it. A laser range finder sensor of approximately 12 meters range is mounted on pan and tilt mechanism. The navigating robot consists of a base with four wheels and a scale is placed vertically on it. A strip consists of 30 LDR’s (light detecting resistance) is attached on the scale and is used as target for laser range finder sensor. The laser range finder will search and hit target i.e. the LDR strip at a point and then the LDR become active and it will give data that is the distance and the elevation difference between two points. This system is a cheaper station for the surveying. Currently in Pakistan only imported systems are used for surveying that cost in million Rupees. This system is prepared at a cost of below Rupees 1 lac.
The objectives of the land survey robot system is to perform the survey of the land automatically.
Enable the robots to find out the elevation difference between different selected points.
Enable the robots to find out the distance between two points.
The working on the project had started since from 7 months and is completed approximately in 8 months.
The research phase was the start of the project that for finding the way of achieving the performing of the survey on the robots.
During the research the design of the two robots for the survey was selected that is one is fixed that is based station robot and the other is movable.
Then the design of the hardware is done by using the PTC creo Software.
After that the hardware parts are made practically by using different machining operations like cutting,
Grinding, drilling etc.
The sensors was selected during the research that is the laser range finder sensor, LDR (light detecting resistance) etc.
The survey of the land will be perform automatically no manual work is required.
No manual calculations of data will done as compared to the conventional method of survey in which there is a long calculation.
Cost is minimized as compared to the conventional instruments of the land survey which are quite expensive.
Minimum time will required to the survey on the robots system.
Only one man will required to perform the survey.
The laser range finder sensor of up to 12 meters range is used.
The accelero and gyro sensor (MPU 6050) is used in the project for balancing the laser range finder sensor in horizontal direction.
DC gear motors (highly torque capable motors) are used in a mobile robot on semi rough terrain.
H Bridge module is used for controlling the motor direction.
Microcontroller (ATmega328P) is used for the controlling of the circuits.
Servo motors are used in the roll, pitch and yaw mechanism for keeping the laser range finder the horizontal direction.
