CLUSTBY is a web-based application to help the students and faculty across various universities in Pakistan to interact with each other. The interaction is in terms of general posting as well as an academic query discussion forum where students and faculty respond back. CLUSTBY also provides a consistent panel for viewing different sorts of information about a specific university including Alumnus information, previous FYP details, and general news. The application is developed using cutting-edge technology - Ruby on Rails along with PostgreSQL. 

Project Objectives

  • Students can get a response to their queries from other academic users.

  • Users can validate the response by looking at the upvotes on the response made by other users.

  • Users can post general interactive posts to initiate interactions with other CLUSTBY users.

  • Users can get a better insight into the university by viewing the university’s permitted details.

Project Implementation Method

The project will be developed using Ruby on Rails which is a popular web application framework. RoR follows MVC(Model-View-Controller) pattern. The database used is PostgreSQL and the whole project is being managed via Git/GitHub where each member is actively enhancing or adding new functionality to the project. The Stripe payment method is used for a subscription payment feature. A rich text editor is integrated to allow rich formatted text to be saved. Popular Rails gems including 'Devise' - for user authentication and 'Sentimental' - for sentimental analysis and filtering spam queries, etc.  There are different panels including the Academic users (student, faculty) panel, university-admin panel, and super-admin panel.

Benefits of the Project

Our project aims to present a software solution that allows students and faculty of different institutes to interact, discuss various study concepts, and have a quality discussion with students and faculty from various universities. Public such as parents can also get relevant university details of all universities before their child applies to the university. Moreover, CLUSTBY aims to generate revenue for the super admin through the periodic subscription fees of registered universities. This application ensures user integrity since (s)he can only register with the official university domain email address (edu.pk). The application will also offer a scalability solution since tenant search will be used to allow fast searching and retrieving of records. The application will aid the students in understanding the concepts better by resolving their academic queries related to any course. Universities' permitted information can be viewed on a single platform makes it a lot easier to view on a single site. 

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The final deliverable will be a responsive web application that will be operational on smartphones as well as laptops. The application will be hosted using the Heroku server and will be available for the end-users. Initially, the universities need to get registered and they will be provided with a university admin panel. After that, their academic users (students, faculty) will sign up using their affiliated university. The application will serve the students and faculty of various universities of Pakistan.
