Brain control home automation

Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject Summary

A brain-computer interface (BCI) is a new communication channel between the human brain and a digital computer. The ambitious goal of a BCI is finally the restoration of movements, communication, and environmental control for handicapped people. An electroencephalogram (EEG) based brain-computer interface was connected with a Virtual Reality system to control a smart home application. It offers an alternative to natural communication and control. It is an artificial system that bypasses the body’s normal efficient pathways, which are the neuromuscular output channels. Different brain states are the result of different patterns of neural interaction. These patterns lead to waves characterized by different amplitudes and frequencies. This neural interaction is done with multiple neurons. Every interaction between neurons creates a minuscule electrical discharge. This project deals with the signals from the brain. Different brain states are the result of different patterns of neural interaction. These patterns lead to waves characterized by different amplitudes and frequencies. The signal generated by the brain was received by the brain sensor and it will divide into packets and the packet data transmitted to a wireless medium (blue tooth). The wave measuring unit will receive the brain wave raw data and will convert it into a signal using the MATLAB GUI platform. Then the instructions will be sent to the home section to operate the modules (bulb, fan). The project operated with human brain assumption and the ON/OFF condition of the home appliance is based on changing the muscle movement with blinking.

Project Objectives

To design a real-time embedded system for controlling Electric appliances With help of BCI(brain-computer interface) technology.

Project Implementation Method

In this project, we will control appliance with help of Brain–computer interfaces (BCI). BCIs are systems that can bypass conventional channels of communication (i.e., muscles and thoughts) to provide direct communication and control between the Bluetooth medium. (LAU) will receive the brain wave raw data and it will extract and process the signal using MATLAB platform. Then the control commands will be transmitted to the raspberry pi and Arduino to  process. With this entire system, we can turn ON/OFF appliance  accordingly through the configured brain signals.human brain and physical devices by translating different patterns of brain activity into commands in real time. With these commands, home appliances can be controlled.

Benefits of the Project

1.By By using BCI technology, brain actuated application can be done mainly for the paralyzed people who cannot move physically. Here controlling appliances by using Brain is done with the help of Brainsense.

2. The project will also be very useful for aged people to control the devices around them without any hassle of physically operating the devices.

3.Illetrate people, who can’t operate IoT devices can be also benefitted from this project.

4.The project will also provide vital data for the research purpose in the field of BCI Technology.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The prototype of our project will contain an EEG sensor that will send the brain alpha wave to Arduino through the HC-05 module, which will be then send to MATLAB for digital filtration. After the noise is minimized the single will be analyzed by the Arduino and if the single means to turn or off a certain device, the required relay through which the device is connected, will turn on or OFF respectively.

our prototype will be made of
