Automatic Human Following Shopping Cart
Project Area of Specialization RoboticsProject SummaryNow a day purchasing and shopping at big malls is becoming a daily activity in metro cities. We can see huge rush at malls on holidays and weekends. It seems too hectic to push the trolley till entire shopping is done and after that customer have to wait in the queue for billing. To overcome these issues or to ease this we are proposing an automatic shopping project in which customers need not to concentrate on the movement of trolley as Trolley will move automatically following the sensors.
Project ObjectivesThe main objective of our project is to make shopping more easy and comfortable for each and every customer by providing them many facilities right in their trolley. Trolley will move after the customer at the maintained distance. Once the shopping is done one has not to wait in the queue as the trolley will have RFID Reader attached. The customer’s trolley will have the total amount displayed on the LCD which will be then tracked by the man on the
Project Implementation MethodWe are trying to design a smart shopping cart which make shopping more easier for people than dragging a cart so our project consist, cart structure, Aurdino, sensors, microcontroller, battery, RFID Reader ,cart frame Dc motors etc.

Technical Details of Final DeliverableNow a days people purchase a variety of items and put them in the trolley. After total purchasing one should approach counter for billing purpose. By using barcode reader the cashier prepares the bill which is a time consuming process .This results in long queues at the billing counters. This project presents an idea to develop a system in shopping malls to overcome the above problem. To achieve this all products in the mall should be equipped with RFID tags and all trolleys should be equipped with a RFID reader and LCD screen.
Ultrasonic sensor will be on the front of the trolley. It measures the distance by sending out the sound waves at 40 kHz frequency and listening for that sound wave to bounce back. The wave bounce back from the person in front of the sensor and by recording the elapsed time between the sensor and the person it will calculate the distance. If the person moving forward towards the trolley, the sensor will sense the distance between them and gives signal to arduino about the distance. Arduino will execute the program by moving the motors in forward direction and hence if the person moves towards trolley it will tend to move away from the person. If the person moves backward the trolley will tends to come closer to the person. If the person stops suddenly, the trolley will move at specific distance from the user.
