UHF Enabled Library Management System
Project Area of Specialization Software EngineeringProject SummaryThe main aim of this project “UHF Based Library Management System” is to build an automated Library system for educational institutes and to replace old manual method of recording the transactions. A Library is a growing Department. By the time as is growing the problems of security and maintenance of the document also growing and other side day by day technology also improving. As a Pilot project UHF-Based Library Management system was built to improves the maintenance and security problems and also reduce the workflow of a library.
The best way to maintain, organize, and handle countless books systematically is to implement a library management system software. This system completely automates all your library’s activities. You can find books in an instant, issue/reissue books quickly, and manage all the data efficiently and orderly using this system. The purpose of a library management system is to provide instant and accurate data regarding any type of book, thereby saving a lot of time and effort. As per our observation, we have noticed that the best and simplest way to secure the library and manage the books record is to implement a Library Management System and for the security purpose we decided to use RFID tags to prevent the books of library from anti-theft. This system provides complete automated control on books record. By using this software we can search the book in no time, as well as we can issue/reissue the book systematically and keep, manage and update the data easily and efficiently, the idea of this project is to develop and efficient application called “Automated Library System” to avoid the manual data-entry process where the librarian has to enter the data manually into registers/excel or any management system and has to maintain the record/sheets that takes a lot of time, efforts and also include typing or input errors. Now the automated library system makes it really easy for librarian and student both, the application will handle the whole process of book transactions itself using UHF Readers. It will automatically pass the transaction of check-out, book returns using a new generation of Auto Identification techniques. Bar-codes have served the librarians and libraries for a long time, and now it is getting slowly replaced by RFID. This technique is much better than other techniques since it takes zero effort for the Librarians, the user don’t need to stand in front of check-out counter to pass the transaction and the student can check-out by their own in less time, all they have to do is put the id card and books on UHF Reader placed on check-out counter and the rest process will be done by the system. The UHF Reader will read the id’s from UHF Stickers placed in the books and id card and the system will verify the id from Library database and in the end it will enter the transactions. Not a single fake-proxy will be approved by using this process.
Project ObjectivesThe main objective of our project is to replace the manual system of managing libraries with the proper and systematic method by implementing the Smart Library Management system which is UHF automated. Furthermore, we are using RFID tags in the project just to make it more safe and easy which gives quick scanning as well, for this purpose we designed a software which is quite user friendly and easy to operate for both students and librarian and it also reduces their work efforts and providing accurate results.
This project also provides the anti-theft system which is the biggest issue we have noticed during our case studies and research, for this purpose we have designed the anti-theft gate which is a smart step towards the issue of book theft. It works as if someone tries to steal the book by providing the wrong book id, the software will quickly identify that and notify.
We have implemented the self-check-in and self-check-out system for students which requires zero effort for the librarian, the student don’t have to stand in the que and wait for their turn to issue the books, they can check-out by their own just by a quick scan in a very less time. All they have to do is to put the book and their id card in front of the RFID scanner and it will quickly scan and issue the book on student’s card and all the other process will be done by the system itself. The purpose of a library management system is to provide instant and accurate data regarding any type of book, thereby saving a lot of time and effort. As per our observation, we have noticed that the best and simplest way to secure the library. This system provides facilities to the different libraries institute staff and students to record the inventory of book and students data in a digital form. It saves time and manage all the record of students, it also detect an unissued book. This system provides self-check-out counter through which student can easily checkout or issue a book without any other’s help or assistance. This system provides student portal for books information like author, shelf rack and status of the book. It also helps in keeping the record of all the books on centralized database. It also includes submit options for self-check-out and book return receipt. The Main Goal of the project is to help the librarian by improving the internal transaction process and moving it from manual to automatically computerized. It provides the valuable service to students’ and librarian’.it has reduced manual transaction process that includes many errors by providing an automated system. Detection and recognition of UHF-RFID tag to process transaction is now possible. Automated Update of all the books as per shelf and rack is in Database. The main aspect of this is that we have provided the theft detection system through this RFID based Library Management System.
Project Implementation MethodLibrary Management System using RFID becoming very useful as it is using RFID technique. So, the concept of proxy is ruined. It monitors and controlled all processes until the record of library is updated. This chapter describes all the data and information that takes apart in implementation. Firstly, we started the implementation with the designing of main page of the software which contains the username and password to login to the software, furthermore the next step was to enroll the books one by one, in this step we added multiple options to add books which helps in adding the multiple books of same topic containing the different RFID tags. In this step we added the detailing of the books which is very helpful in searching the relevant book quickly. After that the other step was to add the panel for the multiples of the books in the record so we add number of copies record panel.
After completing the above mentions panels we finally started designing the dashboard of the software which didn’t took so much time and our next step was for the students which includes the detailing of the students’ like their name, student id and the program in which they are enrolled and additionally it contains the RFID tag id which is on their student card that is a unique id.
We used Oracle Forms, oracle apex and oracle SQL for the completion of our software and now if we summarize the implementation, the system has different pages. The pages include the system login, dashboard, admin different option and student portal. The main page for admin shows the different options of operations that will be done by admin namely add books, add students, assign shelves and racks, issue and receive the books. Hardware and software for implementation are also discussed. The system uses RFID Reader for operations and 03 different software’s include Oracle forms, oracle apex and oracle database.
The last step for the implementation is testing, testing plan is a perfect reminder or a plan to do everything on right time with right students. It is like a reminder to keep record of the tasks that need to be done or are still pending. Having a record is important to communicate with a bunch of peoples it is necessary to let the involved persons know what’s happening, when it’s happening or why it’s happening. It’s just a plan to keep record of the works that needs to be done and when the usability test has to put on to work. Most of the information that’s recorded in the test plan is shared from other documents that we use for executing the study plan. It will need the profile of you participant and there to do list. Most probably there will be some information that may not be written. Like the list that help you in your task list.
Benefits of the ProjectThis system provides facilities to the different libraries institute staff and students to record the inventory of book and students’ data in a digital form.
