Project Summary

Robotics is a growing field even after decades since its introduction, robotics and robots find applications in industry and commercial settings, in this project we have analysed and aim to develop algorithm for such robotic arm for pick and place and avoidance of objects either moving or stationary, this project finds applications in various industrial settings.

Project Objectives

  • Study and analyze robotics concepts.
  • To setup a 5 degree of freedom Robotic Arm.
  • To assign task of reaching desired location.
  • To program the arm to pick and place the objects.
  • To introduce algorithm for object avoidance for dynamic as well as static objects.

Project Implementation Method

  • In first step  parts of a robotic arm with five degrees of freedom, with Mg945 Servo motors as actuators was purchased and assembled.
  • In Second step calculations of its link lengths and joint offsets was done in order to know position of its end effector.
  • In third step its equivalent robot was modeled in RoboAnalyzer software and a Matlab code was generated to verify calculations.
  • In fourth step Servo motor driving shield was used with arduino mega board to run the robotic arm using calculations made earlier.
  • In fifth step an algorithm will be designed for the robot to avoide obstacles occuring in its path and re-plan its trajectory to reach the given location. 

Benefits of the Project

  • The project is beneficial in multiple fields. Initially the main benefit of this project is it can be used to enhance currently deployed industrial robots, to increase tthe amount of work done.
  • Another benefit is that this project works on the "future of work" which is now a trend to fully automize smallest task for people to pursue high intellectual tasks.
  • Finally this project will  smartly fuse the modern software and hardware techniques for betterment of society.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The final deliverable of the project will be a software and hardware integrated robotic arm system which on software side will comprise of AI algorithms and on the hardware side it will include the 5 dof robotic arm working upon Mg945 servo motors the control signal will generated through PC and provided to the arm through arduino mega board.
