The project deals with modeling of buildings, building components and building systems, in terms of mass and energy processes. More specifically thermal energy and mass transfer throughout and between building components, by conduction, convection and thermal radiation, both in steady state and transient conditions convective, radiative and thermal energy balances for the building systems numerical modeling and simulation.
In this project one of the most modern construction technology BIM is used and a well-known energy simulation program Ecotect is considered for energy analysis.
Building Information Modeling (BIM) is an intelligent 3D model-based process that gives architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) professionals the insight and tools to more efficiently plan, design, construct, and manage buildings and infrastructure. (Autodesk)
ECOTECT software is designed to aid in the simulation, analysis and optimization of high performance buildings and systems. The software can be categorized into modeling, visualization and analysis components and applied in combination to generate analytical data on building properties.(Wikipedia)
To design energy efficient building using BIM .The possible outcome would the combination of BIM technology with ECOTECT technology to demonstrate thermal behavior of a building. As software’s are much expensive and cannot be afforded at lower level of construction or at the beginning of a project where there is no need for high accuracy, but for a basis to make design decision at the sketching stages.
Using modern knowledge of architecture for designing of a plan OR considering an already constructed building plan for the purposes of this research.
Modelling the plan by REVIT, which is a qualified program for BIM and
The plan after being modelled, will then be analyzed by ECOTECT to check the thermal performance and efficiency of the building.
For the purposes of comparison results of ECOTECT will also be compared with other energy analysis programs like Green Building Studio and Open Studio. We expect to design a building that has minimum energy loses by selecting of best material, orientation and body structure of a building.
The purpose of the research has been to identify the phase of IDP (integrated design process) and to investigate the incorporation of BIM and Ecotect and how they interact in the process and the iterations. Therefore the put itself has not been in focus but the process of getting the information and how it is communicated.
The absolute accuracy of the calculation result is not important at in early stage of the IDP such as the sketching phase. The essential is the basis of any comparative calculations is the same and that relative accuracy is maintained.
Ecotect analysis: Annual energy cost = 6580 dollars
GBS analysis: Annual energy cost = 6083 dollars

HVAC system will be active the month of july.
All comparison will then be compared on the basis of the month July.
