The performance evaluation of Monocrystalline PV Module by using Micro-channel cooling technique with forced convection.
The purpose of this project is to increase the power and efficiency of mono-crystalline PV module. The performance of the PV module depends on the solar irradiance and operating temperature of the module. The performance of the PV module decreases due to the increase in the operating temperature of module. As the temperature increases, the power output of PV module decreases. Hybrid cooling technique (micro- channel cooling technique along with forced convection) will be used to increase the efficiency of solar module by decreasing the module temperature. Micro-channels will consist of serpentine and multi-inlet and outlet arrangements at the back side of mono-crystalline PV module and water will be employed as working fluid. Forced convection will be achieved using DC fans at the back side of PV module.
Main objectives of this project are: -
The Experiment will perform under ambient conditions and setup will be implanted on the roof of Mechanical Department of Comsats University Islamabad, Sahiwal Campus.
We have used Three Solar panels (monocrystalline PV modules) where each panel is of 50W.Panel stand (angle of panel on the stand is 45 degree from the rooftop).Three 12V DC fans have been used for applying forced convection technique. For making full contact of absorber to the panel Wooden sticks have been used. Valves and nozzles (1/4 inch diameter) have been used for controlling water at the inlet of serpentine copper pipe. EXIDE DC Battery (12V 20Ah/20hrs) turned into used to offer power to DC lovers in compelled convection cooling approach. We used Copper pipes (8mm outer diameter serpentine-formed) as an absorber for lower back-channel cooling of PV modules and Thermo paste used in contact between absorber and panels for transferring the heat. PROVA 210A PV Module Analyzer have been used to measures the Open Voltage (V), Maximum Voltage (V), Short Current (A), Maximum Power (W), Fill Factor (FF) and Efficiency % it additionally presents the graphs of I-V, V-I and I-V-P. Thermocouple Thermometer TYPE-K DM6801A have been used to measure the temperature at the inlet and outlet of serpentine .Solar Survey 200R have been used to measure the irradiance in W/m2.Tube Bender have been used for bending of pipes. UNI-T UT306A (IR Thermometer) have been used to find the temperatures of the panel after cooling in order that they will be compared with the reference panel temperature. We have used Mini Tube Cutter for cutting of tubes.
