Gases are more or less dangerous depending on their quantity. For instance, Ozone (O?) is rather a useful gas in small quantities (it destroys microbes), and natural air contains some of it. But when it is too dense, it irritates eyes and respiratory ways. Also, CO? at a “normal” rate (0.04%) is perfectly acceptable, but when it reaches 0.1%, it becomes disturbing: it induces a sleep of low quality, etc.

Pollution has rocked the world with skyrocketing pollution levels. Though the long term solution to the pollution problem lies in finding and minimizing pollution sources, we need to bring the current pollution levels under control by the time. The best way of controlling pollution is by using air purifiers. But regular indoor air purifiers are small low power devices that don’t possess enough purifying capability needed for outdoor spaces. Along with this, there is also an issue of power supply in outdoor machines.

So here we design a heavy-duty outdoor air purifier that is made for outdoor purification along and powered by solar panels so it is energy independent. Our solar air purifier consists of a heavy-duty suction fan that pulls air from the bottom of the purifier through a layer of HEPA and Carbon filters for elimination of PM 10 PM 2.5 pollutants as well as gases.

How It Works?

Derived from coconut shells, wood or coal, activated carbon filters contain millions of small pores between carbon atoms that can trap or interact with chemical fumes, gases, and odors, rendering them harmless. Due to the high surface area of the carbon granules, carbon filters are excellent at trapping gases that would otherwise go right through other filter media.

Project Objectives

An air purifier is supposed to remove all harmful elements from the air while keeping the necessary elements. But if it does not remove all kinds of pollutants, it gives a fake impression of security (imagine someone handling to you a glass of seawater, and telling “I removed the sand, so you can drink it!”)

  1. Design the air purifier design using CAD (computer-aided design).  Approve it from the technical committee.
  2. Added layers to the devices that are HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) and the active carbon filter.
  3. The device will be ready to suck the polluted air and purify it from pollution and dust particles.
  4. Add air quality sensors and display to show the current air quality.
  5. Add the solar panels and attach them to the power supply to save energy and the device should run in the electricity shortage too.
  6. The machine is mounted with 4 castor wheels and a handle for easy movement. This makes the air purifier portable so it can be easily moved to school play areas, parks, residential areas, public places for efficient and instant pollution control.

we will found out the most enclosed and polluted areas. also the commercial and residential areas with a lot of traffic and population nearby that are schools, academies, parks, public gathering, and offices so that the air can be cleansed.  We list down the implementation method below in bullets:

Benefits of the Project

Air Filter Strengths:

  1. Highly absorbent, making it very effective in trapping chemical fumes, gases, cigarette smoke, and odors.

  2. The device will not release captured contaminants back into the air.  The device will not generate ozone or harmful byproducts.

  3. The device will be cheaper and everyone and everywhere can be used.

  4. The device will contribute to the country's shared economy by stopping imports and increasing exports.

  5. The device will be portable and can be moved or shift from one place to another place.

  6. The device will improve the environment and the health of the people. Health people and healthy environment.


 

Air Filter Weaknesses:

  1. Does not effectively remove dust and other allergens.

  2. Does not effectively capture bacteria and viruses.

  3. Like HEPA filter, activated carbon filter works passively too. It requires a fan to draw in the air in order to trap air contaminants.

  4. As the pores in the filter become filled with trapped contaminants, the filter loses its effectiveness and will need to be replaced.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Some technical details of the project are

  1. The purifier uses 2 layers of purification, the first one being the HEPA layer and the second an active carbon filter. The combination of these 2 filters leads to dual filtration using a centrifugal air force to suck a large amount of air and purify it of dust particles.
  2. Now this suction fan is used to suck out air using high-power centrifugal force and blowing out fresh air from the top.
  3. The system also includes an air quality sensor and display to display the current air quality.
  4. We will also use solar panels for the power supply. The panel is used to supply electricity to the battery which in turn powers the motor to run the suction fan.
  5. The machine is mounted with 4 castor wheels and a handle for easy movement.
