Solar Powered Smart Irrigation System
Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryNow a days, Everything is getting smarter and more smarter. Similarly Irrigation system is also getting smarter with use of Modern and Advanced technologies. This project is a proposed prototype which will automate the irrigation system by using solar technology. The proposed prototype will automatically turn ON and OFF the motor pump by sensing the moisture level on the soil. A moisture sensor will take data of an specific area and the motor will get turn OFF when soil will be wet and it gets turn ON when the field will be dry. To send the notification and update (ON/OFF) to the farmers, GSM technology will be used. The prototype will be controlled by using Arduino. The power to run the motor pump will be Generated by Solar Panel (DC). The motive of the project is to make irrigation system more economical.
Project Objectives- The focus of this project is to make the irrigation system Economical and much smarter.
- Developing a smart system to save time and water ( which is a basic need of life).
- To shift the trend from non-renewable energy to renewable energy.
- Creating an algorithm to send Update to the machine operators.
First project will be simulated by using Proteus Software and then proposed model is fabricated in such way that it will turn ON and OFF the motor pump to automate the irrigation system by using the moisture sensor which sense the moisture level of the soil. If the moisture level of the soil will be less than the preset level of the soil then Motor pump will turn ON and if moisture level is Greater than the preset moisture level of the soil then Motor pump will remain in OFF state. This prototype will make sure the proper and efficient amount of water in the land and fields with suitable time. The microcontroller will receive the signal of moisture level from sensing element and it will make decision whether to turn ON or OFF the water pump. An LCD display is also arranged and it is connected to microcontroller which shows the output command. GSM technology facilitates the mobile phone of the owner and SMS is sent to update the status of motor pump when it starts or stop. The power which runs the motor pump is generated by solar panel.

- Solar power is main source of electricity therefore availability of electricity is not mandatory.
- This watering method is helpful for farmers in rural areas.
- No water wastage.
- Low cost which provides efficient automation.
- Can provide power for few hours even after the sunlight.
The project comprises of Proteus software and its Hardware model. The purpose of the project is to save time , water and enhancement of the irrigation system with less efforts. The final project will be the integration of hardware and software in real time.
