Solar Based Smart Home
Project Area of Specialization Wearables and ImplantableProject SummarySummery of the Project
As the sources of conventional energy are reducing every day, resorting to other sources of energy like solar energy and wind energy has become our main goal. Now a days using solar voltaic cells to store the solar energy as electricity is one of the best way. Solar-powered home appliances systems are already available in rural as well as urban areas. This system will be used to overcome the problem of load shedding. The design of our project is based on micro- controller. This project mainly focuses on reducing the electricity bill by using solar energy generated from sun for home appliances. Solar panel is made up of PV (photo voltaic) cells, these cells collect sunlight and with the help of Solar Charge Controller the solar energy is stored in battery and the inverter converts the DC energy to AC energy and eventually supplies the current to all appliances. This project also uses the solar tracking phenomena to increase the efficiency of solar voltaic cell. For that purpose we use DC gear motor, H-Bridge IC and photo sensors. These sensors detect that in which direction solar energy from sun is maximum and then with the help of DC gear motor the solar panel will move towards direction of maximum sunlight. The output of the inverter followed by LC filter to reduce the harmonics and to convert the wave into sine wave. This design also has the ability to switch between solar supply and WAPDA supply as a backup for home appliances. This project also uses Android device by which one can easily control the function of connecting devices by switching the
appliance on and off. For this purpose we use Bluetooth module connected to Arduino.
Objectives
- Utilization of Solar Energy
- Solar light Tracking.
- Charge Controller.
- Single phase DC to AC conversion(Inverter).
- Switching between Solar Power and WAPDA supply.
- Controlling of the electrical appliance by Android device.
Solar Tracker
For Solar Tracker we used the single axis solar tracker. Single axis solar tracker will track the sunlight from East to West or from North to South at a time. Tracker will move from 30-degree to 150-degree aproximatelty.
Charge Controller
Charge controller is designed for maintaining the costant current and voltages of Solar Panel's output for Battery charging. Basically in designing of charge controller, input of charge controller from panel side will be from 10Vdc to 18Vdc and we will get fixed output of 12-Vdc and 3-Amperes from Charge Controller.
Inverter
Single Phase Inverter is designed by Using SPWM(Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation) technique. First of all we SPWM is generated digitally by using the Arduino and then this SPWM signal is given at the gate terminals of the MOSFET(Metal Oxide Field Effect Transistor) and we get the AC(Alternating Current) wavfeorm. After that LC-Filter is used to remove the dostrotion from the AC waveform. After that Step-up Transformer is used to step the AC voltage to our desired level.
Home Automation
Home automation is performed by using the Microcontroller, Bluetooth Module and Android Device. Microcontroller will switch ON or OFF the AC devices with the help of Relay. Android application was developed by using the online app invetntor.
