The FDCVR (Flight Data and Cockpit Voice Recorder) is a device that records aircraft performance statistics. The FDCVR system collects and records data from various aeroplane sensors onto a medium that can withstand an accident. The FDCVR system records over hundreds of parameters, which are then transferred to a laptop computer via custom-built software. While the system can display the recorded data graphically, daily monitoring and analysis of such a large number of fleet inputs, especially when they are interdependent for shifting flight situations, is a difficult process. The process can be greatly simplified by developing custom algorithm that can detect out-of-limit values without the need for manual human intervention.

Project Objectives

The FDCVR system records over 230 parameters, which may be transferred onto a laptop computer using custom-built software. While the system may display the recorded information in a graphical style, daily monitoring and analysis of such a huge number of inputs on the fleet, especially when they are interdependent for shifting flight situations, is a difficult process.

Project Implementation Method

In present times of pressured economy and restricted defense resources, maximizing the utilization of ageing aircraft fleets is one of the top concerns of defense organizations. In my project, I’ll create software that compares recorded data to accessible limitations and highlights those numbers that are out of range for urgent correction. The data must first be extracted and imported from FDCVR, after which it must be converted into an appropriate format. The data will then be analyzed in MATLAB or Python software to look for out-of-limit values in various aircraft components.

Benefits of the Project

FDCVR is used to keep track of particular aircraft performance metrics. An FDR’s goal is to collect and record data from a number of aircraft sensors onto a media that can withstand an accident. Historically, an FDR was one of two types of ”flight recorders” carried on planes, with the other being a cockpit voice recorder (CVR). When both types of recorders are installed, they are occasionally merged into a single device refered to as FDCVR which provides the required information which is then, later on processed for analysing various aircraft performance parameters. Through this project, a software will be constructed in which recorded data are compared to available limitations and only out-of-limit values are marked for urgent correction.In this way, it can save hours & hours of Aircraft analysis crew members and can help in increased accuracy of problem detection of Generic Transport Aircraft.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

A software capable of recording values which can be compared with available limits and only out of limit values will be then highlighted for immediate rectification. We have a normal operating range for a certain aircraft component. If the parameters’ value exceeds or goes below specified range, it would rather signify an abnormality, upon which maintenance might be conducted. Various components in an aircraft are integrated and interconnected during regular routine missions. Failure or unexpected behaviour of one component can render the dependent sub-systems inoperable. As a result, prompt discovery of unusual behaviour in one component can aid in the resolution of faults in interdependent systems. Such issues will be recognised using data from the FDCVR and then analysed to debug them.
