The conventional farming system does not only take alot of time and hardwork but is also less efficient in production.
In Pakistan we have water shortage and alot of land which can be worked upon but it is not usually done due to alot of problems such as soil salinity,climate,temperature,security,feudal problems,etc
The aquaponics system is implemented for two purposes which are fish and plants growth side by side.The system only requires the fish to be fed daily and check up and maintenance of the system and goes along way without much human intervention.
Our system will have a controlled water flow which may help us in power saving,controlled leds so the process of photosynthesis can continue in day or night time.
Project ObjectivesTo design and develop a system which can be seen as an example for an agricultural project situated in urban area free of almost all problems faced in rural areas.The conventional system of farming takes a lot of hard work but less cost,their yields are around one or two times in a year we will be trying to increase our yield upto atleast four times in a year so we can compete with the market prices of the agricultural projects.
Our plus point will be less delivery cost as we are situated in the city which will also help in competing with the prices.
Project Implementation Methodwe will make an automatic farming or planting system with the help of arduino which will automate the flow of water from fish tank to plant tank and from plant tank to fish tank . In this process the nutrients are taken from fish tank and are sent to the plant tank in which they are absorb by the plants
Benefits of the ProjectAfter at the end we will be able to produce plant very fastly and we will also produce fishes it means double production in a single system and it will use less water which is also the main reason we are building this system.we will have good yield of green vegetables and a good stock of fish,combining the market value of both we will have a bit of an edge above the market prices of agricultural goods.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableIn our aquaponic system we plan to raise 20-25 small fishes and green leafy vegetables, our system will take a small fish tank,a container with roughly 12”,40”,30” in depth ,length and breadth respectively filled with media bed to hold plants,a roughly 900 GPH air pump,water piping system,a couple of growth leds,PH meter,air pump controlling system using arduino,flood and drain system in media bed and a water pump if the water flow efficiency of the system is low.
here the media bed are containers filled with rock medium of expanded clay or similar. Water from the fish tank is pumped over the media filled beds, and plants grow in the rock media,the fish water gives nutrients to plant and the growth led with help the plants to continue their process of photosynthesis for 24/7. the depth of plant container could have been lowered but that would have caused suffocation of roots,the air pump connection will be provided in the media bed so they can have enough oxygen and could be free of Algae.the system takes 90% less water and is able to hold at least 4 times more crops in the given space as compared to the agriculture system used in Pakistan
