The robot is fully automated and gets close to the user to dispose his garbage in. The robot will move by following lane and detects trash in its path and also it will avoid obstacle.
Project ObjectivesThe purpose of this project is to provide ease to people so they don’t have to move towards the bin for trashing.
- To develop a prototype of the smart bin that moves by seeing through USB webcam and process the live video and detects garbage by avoiding the hurdles and come back to its initial position.
- To integrate the project of smart bin that provides the user-friendly system.
This project's methodology is given by:
- This project is based on navigation. Firstly, a USB web cam is attached with it.
- Live video is recorded by capturing image by image then these images are processed in laptop in which through image processing, robot starts moving by detecting lane and moves within that path.
- Obstacle avoidance is also basic feature of our prototype. Ultrasonic sensor is used for avoiding obstacle in the moving path of the robot.
- This robot detects garbage using image processing algorithm and stops there. When garbage will remove then robot again starts moving to search trash. And this process repeats one by one.
- An user interface application is created for this project on which different data will provide to user that is when robot detects trash, then this message will appeared on that App. Distance covered, hurdle detection etc. are also appeared on App.

- Live Video for Real Time Analysis
Webcams are known for their low manufacturing costs and flexibility, making them the lowest cost form of video telephony. They have also become the source of security and privacy issues, as some built-in webcams can be remotely activated via spyware. Webcams typically include a lens, an image sensor, and some support electronics. Webcam continuously captures images and then other processing is done with programming.
- Lane detection
In this project, we will attempt to find lane lines in a dash cam video feed. Once we detect lane lines, we will mark them on the original video frame and play it back. This all will be done online and without any lag using OpenCV functions.
- Garbage detection
Garbage detection is a computer technology related to computer vision and image processing that deals with detecting instances of Garbage of a certain class (such as empty bottles, rappers, or other Garbage items) in digital images and videos.
- Avoid Obstacles
Ultrasonic sensor is used to avoid hurdles in its path.
- User interface Application
A mobile application is used to start the robot for working. This app is useful because different information about project is shown on that app that is robot is start or not, obstacle came or not and garbage is detected or not and also about the distance covered by robot from starting point.
