Project Title

SDR Based ADS-B Reciever and Decoder

Project Area of Specialization Cyber SecurityProject Summary

ADS-B main function is to automatically broadcast a 112-bit message at 1090 MHz containing aircraft position, altitude, heading, call sign, and aircraft type along with receiving ADS-B broadcasts from other aircraft or ground stations to be displayed within the cockpit. The data transmitted is similar to Mode S transmission, the current iteration of PSR technology. The navigation data used is given to ADS-B from onboard global navigation satellite system (GNSS), which is typically global positioning system (GPS). ADS-B ground stations are used to deliver ADS-B data to ATC, also re-broadcast ADS-B received, increasing the range of original broadcast. That is why ADS-B system is chosen to replace SSR and PSR. It provides better coverage in areas radar could not reach.

Project Objectives

The purpose of this project is to develop a cost effective ADS-B reciever to which will be able to recieve the aircraft data from diffrent aircraft and decode it with the help of SDR (GNIURadio) and the decoded information will be displayed on the map to give the current aircraft location ,altitude and speed .

Project Implementation Method

Implementation:-

71) ADS-B data will be recieved using Blade RF or Hack RF.

2) Then a decoder will be implemented in GNURadio which will decode the aircraft location .

3) The decoded information will be used to display aircraft location on the map.

Benefits of the Project

As the ADS-B system will be compulsory in aircraft in the year 2020 and the current ADS-B IN system is very expensive so this will provie a cost effective solution to the problem.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Expected Deliverable:-

1) SDR code for ADS-B decoder.

2) Proof-of-concept of ADS-B receiver.

3) Software application of mapping of ADS-B decoder.
