Project Summary

Summary:-

In this Project work, we are basically providing the cost-effective solution designing by   the smart and plug and-play type architecture of hybrid integration of modern alternatives sources or renewable energy generator as distributed generations using Multiport Power Electronic interface (MPEI) topology and specific algorithms. Technological advancement has increased the use of renewable energy sources. Especially countries like Pakistan, which have been hit by energy crisis must consider harvesting solar and wind energy because one of its feature is its short time of implementation.

But there are many problems that are occurred by the integration of renewable energy generators as Distributed Generation i.e. Voltage fluctuations, changing frequency, system losses and uncertainties when interconnecting the photovoltaic and wind turbine systems with grid. Hence, raising the complexity and compatibility issues.

Therefore, it’s an effective and considerable approach to generate a controllable, programmable and reliable power using power electronic interface topologies. Unlike the conventional proposed work individual/multistage converters are used for integration of well-known renewable energy generators i.e. photovoltaic and wind turbine system as distributed generation. Later, unified converters are used for AC and DC based hybrid distributed generations in grid connected smart system. This concept is basically based on using the same and single power converter to integrate the maximum modern renewable sources to meet the load demand locally. 

So, our proposed work is basically providing the automatic decision of cost-effective solutions for energy consumption and removing or reducing the complexity and compatibility issues of hybrid integration of well-known modern renewable energy generators as Distributed Generation in grid connected smart system.

Project Objectives

Objectives:

  1. Programmable and Multiport Power Electronic interface (MPEI) based design.
  2. Reducing the compatibility issue of hybrid integration of distributed generations.
  3. Cost and Carbon Footprint Reduction by maximum integration of modern renewable energy generators as perspective of societal factor.

Project Implementation Method

 Methodology:-

Smart Grid Concept

A smart grid is end-to-end cyber protected electric power system that interlinks the bulk generation, transmission networks, distribution networks and consumers, that has a potential of:

  • Enabling the renewable energy sources integration and play a significant role in decarbonization power system.
  • Enabling the effective demand management system by smart metering and customer choice.

Basically, smart grid delivers the electricity from suppliers to end customers with the help of digital technology to save energy, reduce cost by optimized design and represents a robust electrical power system.

A smart grid has basically three functions i.e. first is to modernize the grid through automation, remote and real time monitoring and control, self-healing design and microgrids, second is to informed the consumers about energy usage and cost and allow for energy decisions and third is to integrate the renewable energy resources in smart grid for more efficient, more sustainable and robust electrical energy infrastructure.

The benefits associated with the smart grid system is as follows:

  1. More efficient transmission of electricity
  2. Quicker restoration of electricity after power disturbances
  3. Reduced operations and management costs for utilities, and ultimately lower power costs for consumers
  4. Reduced peak demand, which will also help lower electricity rates
  5. Increased integration of large-scale renewable energy systems
  6. Better integration of customer-owner power generation systems, including renewable energy systems

Futher details about project:-

Hybrid Integration of renewable energy generators as distributed generation DG are increasing rapidly all over the world and especially Pakistan. 

The proposed work will be utilized as cost effective solutions for demand side management system in modern smart grid system and Energy Management System also utilizes the proposed technique for better performance and increased reliability.

Increasing use of green energy as distributed generation can also reduce carbon footprints and other pollutants. Also, power losses decrease, and voltage and frequency fluctuations can be minimized. Modern grid-connected structures can also empower the energy justice decision of renewable generation.
