Millions of lives are lost every year as a result of inappropriate search and rescue missions during the natural and manmade disasters. Given the high demand for an autonomous machine to handle search and rescue operations efficiently without risking the life of the rescue workers. The project aims to design a remotely controlled Rover that is capable of seeking out the victims to aid them and can send the real time video of the location in order to help a rescue team finding the path to save them without risking their life.. This rover enables us to rescue the victims in the shortest time with least harm to rescue units.

Project Objectives

• Constructing an autonomous vehicle to perform disaster management at remote locations: This will involve appropriate design and mechanical assembly of the rover prototype along with the implementation of an autonomous movement algorithm.
• Designing a smart vehicle which incorporates a communication interface for surveying and data gathering: An appropriate communication interface will be employed and interfacing the sensors with the communication device will be necessary to transfer a live data stream.
• Implementing a robotic arm so that it may be employed during remote use to remove obstacles.
• Other telerobotic applications such as surveying remote areas or hazardous terrain.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Final Outcome of the project will be a prototype of our proposed Search and Rescue Rover design. This prototype will include the following key features
 

  1. Capability of carrying payload.
  2. Communication over various means (wifi/GSM)
  3. Access to the rover from remote location by the impementation of a dedicated control web server.
  4. Implementation of DENSO drill for overcoming small obstacles/hindrances in its path.
  5. Remote viewing of rover's perspective from a dedicated imaging camera.
  6. Obstacle Climbing Capability due to a rocker bogie design.
