Project Summary

The main aim of this project is to make a sine wave inverter and analysis the effect of different types of load on home appliances. In our project our objectives are to ensure the frequency of 50Hz, ensure the 50 percent duty cycle, ensure the output is sine wave, use this circuit up to 200W load, ensure 220VAC from 12VDC. There are many types of inverters in the market. Most of these are PWM inverters and Modified sine wave inverters and the efficiency of these are less than sine wave inverter. But we are using SPWM techniques in our project the sine wave inverters are costly than other inverters. So we try to make an inverter which output is nearly pure sine wave. Inverter is the DC to AC voltage conversion. In our project we convert the 12VDC to 220VAC.Here we get the sine wave in two steps. The first one is the pulse generation with frequency control from DC source supply. The second one is the MOSFET technology for getting sine wave. We are able to get 50Hz frequency, 50 percent duty cycle and able to run the circuit up to 200Watt load. This output is better than other Transistor based inverters. The efficiency of this inverter is better than other inverters. This inverter is also cost effective than other sine wave inverters.

Project Objectives

The main objective of the project is to make inverter efficient in terms of cost and reliability.

the 300 watt pure sine aims power inverter is a portable power converter and has enough power to be made use of for electronic devices and appliances. The 300 watt true sine inverter has adequate power to run equipment throughout a power outage. The 600 watt pure sine inverter transforms 12VDC  power into 220VAC family power.And the battery desulfation that will remove the sulfate that produce on the terminals of the battery and also use the equlization techniques to equalalize the battery volts. Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) charging mode is the best intends to steady voltage battery charging by exchanging in the middle of on and off with certain recurrence and a variable obligation cycle the yield present of Generating point (GP) modules to the batteries. The outcome is higher charging proficiency, quick energizing, and solid battery at full limit. The charge controller, permits the battery to be charged at full charging exhibit present from the lower set-point battery voltage (LVD) up to the gassing set-point, Vg, where the framework then uses PWM to control the charging curren

Project Implementation Method

The developed microcontroller-based pure sine wave inverter with controlled output consists of a microcontroller programmed to carry-out all the control functions and the production of a sinusoidal pulse width modulation, a MOSFET driver (IR2112) which increases the current and voltage level of the pulse width so that it can drive the MOSFET, a H-Bridge MOSFET Network for the production of the sine waveform, a Filter to remove the high harmonics components from the sine wave generated, a boost converter that boost up the initial 12v to 220v.

The SPWM signal to be used in the circuit is produced by a microcontroller . For the productionof the SPWM, 32 samples were picked. For calculating the value of the duty cycle for the samples we usethe formula

Duty cycle = the sine of the corresponding angle x maximum duty circle (1)

The corresponding angles are gotten by dividing the angle for one half cycle by total number of samples.Assuming our maximum duty cycle is given as 250 then for the first 16 samples.After that we try to design charger controller from which we will done our additional battery desulfation and battery equilization.

Benefits of the Project

The output wave-form is a sine-wave with very low harmonic distortion and clean power like utility supplied electricity. Inductive loads like microwaves and motors run faster, quieter and cooler.  Reduces audible and electrical noise in fans, fluorescent lights, audio amplifiers, TV, fax and answering machines. Prevents crashes in computers, weird print outs and glitches in monitors.

Here are the some examples or devices that can not work properly with out pure sine wave inverter.

Laser printers, photocopiers, magneto-optical hard drives. 

 Built-in clocks in devices such as clock radios, alarm clocks, coffee makers, bread-makers, VCR, microwave ovens etc may not keep time correctly.

Output voltage control devices like dimmers, ceiling fan / motor speed control may not work properly (dimming / speed control may not function).

Sewing machines with speed / microprocessor control.

Transformer-less capacitive input powered devices like (i) Razors, flashlights, night-lights, smoke detectors etc (ii) Re-chargers for battery packs used in hand power tools. These may get damaged. Please check with the manufacturer of these types of devices for suitability.

 Devices that use radio frequency signals carried by the AC distribution wiring.

Some new furnaces with microprocessor control / Oil burner primary controls.

High intensity discharge (HID) lamps like Metal Halide lamps. These may get damaged. Please check with the manufacturer of these types of devices for suitability.

Some fluorescent lamps / light fixtures that have power factor correction capacitors. The inverter may shut down indicating overload

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

We will deliver pure sine wave inverter with combined battery charging, desulfation and equilization having output voltage of 220V AC approximately at 50 Hz frequency along with output power of 600W and current ratings of 500A. Utilizing SPWM and analog components, the output will be a clean sinusoid, with very little switching noise combined with the inexpensive manufacturing that comes with an analog approach.

They are used in AC motor drives with adjustable speed.They are used in UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) which is a very common application now a days.They are being used in portable devices.

They also find application in conveyor belts as they can be used for controlling speed.Inverters are used where there is a need to run AC devices from batteries.They are used in industries in packaging machines, weighing machines and carts.They are also used in hybrid and electric cars.They also find applications in motor speed controllers.This device is used in voltage compensators.
