Project Summary


A new kind of portable smart size electrocardiogram (ECG) device is developed for human heart monitoring. An ECG Sensor with disposable electrodes attaches directly to the chest to detect every heartbeat. The electrodes of ECG sensor will conversion heart beat to electric signal. ECG Sensors is very light weight, slim and accurately to measures continuous heart beat and give rate data of heart beat. This device always uses by trained doctor and medical assistances. Electrodes of ECG Sensor have 3 pins and connected by cable with 30 inches in length. It is making ECG sensor easy to connect with controller and placed at the waist or pocket. In additional, the plug-in for the cable is a male sound plug which will make the cable to easily removed or inserted into the amplifier board. The sensor assembled on an arm pulse and a leg pulse. All of all sensor electrodes have methods to assemble in body. You can choose type of electrode to measure heartbeat. This project maps with SDG Goal 3, 7,8 12 and 17. Current development in ECG monitoring systems leveraged new technologies, such as deep learning, AI, Big Data and IoT to provide efficient, cost-efficient, fully connected, and powerful monitoring system. As a future direction, exploring the field of robotics and healthcare automation has the potential to transform the next generation of ECG monitoring systems and to simplify robotic-assisted surgery procedures, elderly care, and remote and in-hospital continuous patient monitoring. To summarize its well effective and efficient.

Project Objectives

Heart diseases are becoming a big issue for the last few decades and many people die because of certain health problems. Therefore, heart disease cannot be taken lightly. By analyzing or monitoring the ECG signal at the initial stage this disease can be prevented. So we present this project, i.e ECG Monitoring with AD8232 ECG Sensor & Arduino with ECG Graph.The AD8232 is a neat little chip used to measure the electrical activity of the heart. This electrical activity can be charted as an ECG or Electrocardiogram. Electrocardiography is used to help diagnose various heart conditions.The AD8232 is an integrated signal conditioning block for ECG and other biopotential measurement applications. It is designed to extract, amplify, and filter small biopotential signals in the presence of noisy conditions, such as those created by motion or remote electrode placement.The AD8232 module breaks out nine connections from the IC that you can solder pins, wires, or other connectors to. SDN, LO+, LO-, OUTPUT, 3.3V, GND provide essential pins for operating this monitor with an Arduino or other development board. Also provided on this board are RA (Right Arm), LA (Left Arm), and RL (Right Leg) pins to attach and use your own custom sensors. Additionally, there is an LED indicator light that will pulsate to the rhythm of a heartbeat.
The AD8232 Heart Rate Monitor breaks out nine connections from the IC. We traditionally call these connections “pins” because they come from the pins on the IC, but they are actually holes that you can solder wires or header pins to.We’ll connect five of the nine pins on the board to Arduino. The five pins you need are labeled GND, 3.3v, OUTPUT, LO-, and LO+.

Project Implementation Method

we use Arduino Board, ECG Sensor, connecting wires&  breadboard.

This sensor is a cost-effective board used to measure the electrical activity of the heart. This electrical activity can be charted as an ECG or Electrocardiogram and output as an analog reading. ECGs can be extremely noisy, the AD8232 Single Lead Heart Rate Monitor acts as an op-amp to help obtain a clear signal from the PR and QT Intervals easily.The AD8232 is an integrated signal conditioning block for ECG and other biopotential measurement applications. It is designed to extract, amplify, and filter small biopotential signals in the presence of noisy conditions, such as those created by motion or remote electrode placement.

The AD8232 module breaks out nine connections from the IC that you can solder pins, wires, or other connectors to. SDN, LO+, LO-, OUTPUT, 3.3V, GND provide essential pins for operating this monitor with an Arduino or other development board. Technical Details of Final Deliverable

3 channel ECG machine with simultaneous acquisition of 12 standard leads: aVR, aVL, aVF, I, II, III and V1-6 pre-cordials. 4.2 Internal memory for storage of up to 50 ECGs. 4.3 Splash-resistant alphanumeric keyboard with function keys. 4.4 With zeroing reset, auto-base-line correction (0.5Hz) and 1mV test/calibration signal. 4.5 Filter setting for line-frequency (50 or 60Hz) and tremor. 4.6 Continuous check on the quality of electrodes connection, audio visual alert on loss of signal. 4.7 Appropriately protected for operation during defibrillation. 4.8 Alphanumeric colour LCD, approximately: 4”. Display shows ECG curves, heart rate, patient name and ID, time, age, sex, speed, and filter setting. 4.9 ECG machine shall have 3 modes of operation – Automatic, Manual & Rhythm. 4.10 Shall have measurements and analysis programs. 4.11 Measurements: QRS rate, PR interval, QRS duration, QT/QTC, P/QRT/Taxes, RV5/SV1. 4.12 Shall have interpretation and waveform analysis. 4.13 Shall have a maintenance-free digital thermal array printer. 4.14 Printer shall be able to print ECG report and must have on/off selection. 4.15 Shall have ECG lead annotation facility. 4.16 Paper speed, user-adjustable: 25 and 50mm/sec. 4.17 CMRR shall be > 100dB. 4.18 Sensitivity, automatic or user-selectable: 5, 10 and 20mm/mV. 4.19 Rechargeable battery & charger integrated into the device. 4.20 Battery autonomy, approximately 2 hours. 4.21 The unit shall be compact, light in weight, and easy to carry.
