Paint Nest
Paint Nest is a B2C e-commerce paints website specifically catering to local paint industry and its consumers in Karachi. We want to reach out to help people in easing the process of buying paints from the comfort of their place without glitch. We have observed that customers are having difficulty in identifying how paint will look in reality. To solve this, we are providing a feature of previewing of paint using AR technology through which user could determine beforehand how paint will look when applied. This would reduce the risk of wastage of resources for customers when buying paints.
We would adopt agile methodology for the development of our project. For the completion of project and deployment, it would take approximately eight-to-nine months.
Online working web portal comprising of three modules:
MARKET RESEARCH
With the lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic, many businesses have shifted to online platforms. Those companies who have been solely dependent upon physical trading have to face major decline in their sales. It was a huge struggle for such companies to shift towards e-commerce and many did not try to begin due to lack of resources. One of them is the local paint industry. Many of their consumers, especially those who were in the middle of their projects, have to face a lot of trouble in purchasing paints and have to pause their work for a time
period until the government has lifted the lockdown. This pandemic has made businesses realized that if they do not shift to online platforms soon, they might lose their target market.
After analysing this scenario, we came to conclusion that if local food industry (restaurants, grocery etc.) and apparel industry have grown their businesses using e-commerce then why not our local paint industry. This would not only assist local paint industry in increasing their sales and reaching out to more consumers but it will also ease the process of buying paints for consumers.
Primary Research:
After analysing consumers have faced this frustration when searching for right paint for their place whether it is their homes or workplace.
Secondary Research
There has been complain from consumers that what shade of paint they have selected using companies’ published shade card might not end up according to their expectations when applied. The problem here is not that it is a fault made by companies when publishing their shade cards. It is likely that the consumers have pick the wrong shade as many find it difficult to determine from small color patches on the shade card that how will they look when applied on a much larger surface.
This gap between expectation and reality has caused the wastage of resource whether its time, money or labour.
The Paint Nest project will meet the following objectives:
To develop an e-commerce web portal that caters local paint industry and its consumers along with the provision of paint preview feature using AR tech for helping consumers in finding the right paint colours.
Our platform based on three modules.
We have observed that customers are having difficulty in identifying how paint will look in reality. To solve this, we are providing a feature of previewing of paint using AR technology through which user could determine beforehand how paint will look when applied. This would reduce the risk of wastage of resources for customers when buying paints. The AR technology can be better implemented through Video Camera glasses [daVideo Rikor or MATECam] which would provide consumers a unique hand free experience with comfort when using it.
We would adopt agile methodology for the development of our project as its iterative development and constant collaboration would help us to understand the stakeholders’ expectations more clearly. It is an early stage to determine what type of agile methodology is to be used but currently we are considering Feature Driven Development (FDD) agile methodology.
For the creation of web portal, following tool and technology would be used:
For the development of paint preview feature, following toolkit would be used:
The above-mentioned tool kits are subject to change depending upon the resource.
Following are the benefits of our project:
Moreover, it will be using AR technology with Video Camera Glasses [daVideo Rikor OR MATECam] to help consumers in choosing the right paint colour before buying.
