PAIN MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
Pain, whether acute or chronic is a problem that affects every one of us. In fact, sudden pain is an important reaction of the nervous system that helps alert a person to possible injury. When an injury occurs, pain signals travel from the injured area up to your spinal cord and to your brain. The pain will usually become less severe as the injury heals. However, chronic pain is different from typical pain. With chronic pain, your body continues to send pain signals to your brain, even after an injury heals. This can last several weeks to years. Chronic pain can limit your mobility and reduce your flexibility, strength, and endurance. This may make it challenging to get through daily tasks and activities. Over 1.5 billion worldwide continue to live conditions like Lower Back Pain (LBP), Arthritis, Bone injuries and the like.
In this regard, there have been multiple attempts to mitigate the chronic pain but they either lack in their efficacy or in cost-effectiveness and feasibility or in case of developing nations, there is less access to therapies that provide relief. So, we propose a holistic solution to the problem by developing a personalized, wearable and cost-effective device that would use electric stimulation and electromagnetic approach to solve this epidemic that affects 5–33% of individuals in any global city, as cited by World Health Organization.
To design an Effective & Intelligent Pain Management System that would provide Pain Relief through non-invasive and cost-effective therapy.
To develop a smart wearable device which is a non-invasive, pain management system that would enable the chronic pain patients suffering from muscular pain to efficiently manage their pain.
The device makes use of biphasic electric pulses to send a nonpainful sensation signal to the pain area and effectively block it. These signals are delivered to nerves under the skin with the help of electrodes placed on the skin near (Pain Area).
The design is IoT integrated and develops a pain profile of patient depending on stimulation parameters used, duration of therapy and nature of pain. The system comes with an android application to control and record stimulation parameters. The application also recommends the preset parameters for a different type of pains. The data and feedback of every patient is recorded and used by pain specialist and other patients to enhance the effectiveness of our device.
These features make our device a non-generic personalized pain management device for different patient and pain types.

Functional Electrical Stimulations (FES) therapy involves the application of electrodes to affected areas of the body for the purpose of delivering electrical current. Our device works on the same principle. It can be used by people suffering from chronic pain diseases.

Over 1.5 billion worldwide continue to live conditions like Lower Back Pain (LBP), Arthritis, Bone injuries and the like. Globally, 1 in 10 adults suffers from chronic pain each year. In Pakistan, around 41% of the population suffers from chronic back pain and muscular pain is the second most common disease.
One of the most prevalent alternatives is the use of pain killer medicines which has its drawback due to overdose, excessive tolerance and immunity and side-effects. Other alternatives include physiotherapy which is costly and time-consuming, injections for nerve blockage which is both expensive and invasive.

Our solution is non-invasive, personalized, efficient, cost-effective and comes with a design that is easy to wear at any time of the day. Compared to similar devices that exist in the market, ours would be cheaper and would incorporate variable features to improve the efficiency to manage and relieve pain with other associated aspects such as motion detection to control the pulses in the feedback. This will not only benefit but will also lead to a better quality of life for people with chronic pain disease.
The pain management device is comprising of a frequency generator to generate a frequency signal to run the Pain Management Module. Basic Signal is feed to a driver circuitry which allow changes in frequency, intensity, phase and pulse duration of waveforms for pain relief. A micro-controller is acting as a brain of the device it controls the operations of device as per the parameters set by patient and generate feedback data. Controller is connected to an android app via low powered Bluetooth module. Mobile application takes commands from patient and also collect data for patient and pain profiling. Data is saved in our cloud to connect all the users and pain specialist which will increase the user experience. Gel Electrodes are placed near the pain area on skin and hence the stimulations are given to the patient for pain relive.
