Stem cells are known for their unique ability to renew and their ability to differentiate between different cell types Consequently, most cell-based therapies take advantage of the unique properties of stem cells to contribute to a branch of medical science called regenerative medicine. Thus, the aim of our project is to study pathways that help in the differentiation of Neural Stem cells into neurons, which in the future can provide ways for functional restoration of a patient suffering from a severe disease such as Alzheimer’s Disease in which degeneration of neurons lead to lower signal transduction within a neuron – networks, which in its earlier stages leads to memory loss is mild, and with time the individual losses its ability to engage in a conversation and react to their environment.
Recently, Stem cell therapies have revolutionized every field of science and technology and have many applications to offer especially in the field of regenerative medicine. In this regard, the aim of this research is to study and investigate pathways Involved in the Differentiation of Neural Stem Cells into Neurons.
Following objectives would be followed to achieve our goal:
Project implementation includes different databases and Bioinformatics tools and a good hold on literature. Tools and databases such as KEGG (Kyoto Encyclopedia of Gene and Genomics) will be used in our project to understand the Different pathways and use the data from here to build our network. Another tool known as cystoscape is being also used which allows us to establish the networks. Both the tools are available and are cost-efficient than the wet-lab techniques.
Our project will allow improving regenerative medicines for diseases like Alzheimer's near future.
This study would be able to identify potential targets through which we can use NSCs to do the regeneration and healing process against Alzheimer's. As until now only a drug for Alzheimer's is approved by FDA but it doesn’t cure the disease it only helps to control body movements. A new opportunity to cure the disease using regenerative medicine will be opened.
We have to achieve/form a network that shows that these pathways are responsible for NSCs differentiation and NSCs are able to differentiate themselves into neurons due to these pathways. It is beneficial in a way because once we are able to understand these pathways we can identify biomarkers and use them as a source of developing regenerative medicine against Alzheimer's.
