Project Summary

Natural gas is a non-renewable hydrocarbon used as a source of energy for heating, cooking, and electricity generation. It is also used as a fuel for vehicles and as a chemical feedstock in the manufacture of plastics and other commercially important organic chemicals. There are 95% methane and 5% butane gas like (Methane) in natural gas.  Natural gas is the currently most used gas as fuel in the world. The dominant part of natural gas is methane gas. Methane gas is a flammable gas, if leaked it can cause major damage to life and property . Therefore it should be used in safe handling manner and additional care has to be taken in order to prevent any leakage possible. The main features of Methane gas is that being heavier than air, it do not disperse easily and may lead to suffocation when inhaled. The leaked gases when ignited may lead to explosion. The number of deaths due to the explosion of gas leakage has been increasing in recent years. A major amount of gas is being wasted due to the carelessness of consumer’s.  Sometimes they forget to turn off the burner which leads to damages. Our proposed topics aim at detection of gas leakage and automatic controlling of gas valve and also to find pressure. The (NGDPTWS) which provides home safety, detects the leakage of the Methane gas and alerts the consumer about the leak by a notification using android app through Internet Of Things (IOT) and consumer can turn off the gas valve , from anywhere in the world.

Project Objectives

    1. Detect Methane leak, Butane leak, and LPG leak, or any such petroleum centered gaseous material,
    2. Generate sound alarm when gas is detected.
    3. Transmit notification alert though app to concern person,
    4. Transmit SMS alert to concern person,
    5. Automatic closure of gas source using solenoid controller by using app.
    6. Identify gas pressure
    7. Outdoor gas leakage /around gas meter and generate report though web portal.

Methodology

 V model

The V-model technique was used to acquire the project. This technique is very easy to apprehend and utilize. The simplicity of this technique also makes it simpler to accomplish. The V-Model is based on the relationship of a testing stage for each corresponding improvement level. This means that for every single segment in the improvement drive, there is a directly correlated testing phase. This is a highly-restricted model and the next stage starts only after the end of the previous phase

Benefits of the Project

The Natural gas detection and prevention system has to be implemented for home safety and industrial applications. When the system detects Natural gas leakage and as an emergency measure the system will turn off the regulator, while alerting the user, to identify current pressure status. The leakage should be detected with the help of MQ-4 gas sensor. Sensor sends a signal to microcontroller. In the next step microcontroller sends an active signal to other externally connected devices. The cost involved in developing this kind system is low and is much less than the cost of gas detectors commercially available in the market.
