Project Summary

Over 20 million people die due to cardiac and muscular diseases annually. The main cause of the death is negligence and non-continuous monitoring of the patients. Our project basically provides a prototype the can be available on hometown table in order to monitor patient continually. ECG and EMG sensors are used for live plotting on TFT LCD SP Interface after amplification using OP AMPs through Arduino.

Project Objectives

Main objective of our project is to provide low cost and efficient biomedical system involving two complex but very important machines. Original price of practical electrocardiogram machine available in hospitals is of order of thousands of dollars but as we mentioned earlier that ours is extremely cost efficient which is a very little fraction of dollars that people spend on practical electrocardiogram machines. Same is the case with electromyogram gadgets. Its output is not comparable to the original machines because where there is life of any organism involved strict measures should be taken. Its second advantage is that its size is very small and it might be available at any table in our homes or at any desk in our offices. Its main objective is to provide a visual of electrocardiogram and electromyogram so that a patients can get aware of the problem going inside them. It is faster than the conventional method we use, I mean taking appointment and then visiting the doctor it will take several hours.

Project Implementation Method

First of all we will implement two biomedical machines, one is electrocardiogram and the other is electromyogram. In the first step we will deal with the numerical outputs. In the second step we will do delayed plotting of the numerical values. In the third step we will perform live plotting on a colored liquid crystal display with graphical user interface. If enough time is available we will perform our fourth task which is to improve the functionality of electrocardiogram using multiple pole amplifiers and filters. 

Benefits of the Project

The benefit of our project is to provide low cost and efficient biomedical system involving two complex but very important machines. Original price of practical electrocardiogram machine available in hospitals is of order of thousands of dollars but as we mentioned earlier that ours is extremely cost efficient which is a very little fraction of dollars that people spend on practical electrocardiogram machines. Same is the case which electromyogram gadgets.

Its second benefit is that its size is very small and it might be available at any table in our homes or at any desk in our offices.

Its third benefit is that live plotting is being done instead of delayed plotting done in practical Electrocardiogram and Electromyogram machines. 

Other benefit is to provide a visual of electrocardiogram and electromyogram so that a patients can get aware of the problem going inside them.

It is faster than the conventional method we use, I mean taking appointment and then visiting the doctor it will take several hours.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The final deliverable product will be a prototype of a biomedical machine which will have a screen display to interface with the user and push button is to switch between emg and the ecg according to the desire of the user.

All the other hardware will be enclosed inside the box to make the prototype safe and user-friendly.
