Master SCRUM through gaming
Project Area of Specialization Software EngineeringProject SummaryOur project “Master Scrum through gaming” is a simulation game for Software Engineering phase: Requirement Development by process model Agile, using Scrum methodology. It covers the following aspects: Game development, Software Requirement Engineering and Process model Agile.
This game is designed to introduce students to the favoured and important Scrum software development methodology through story elements.
Our game is designed as a Multiplayer game where the players takes the role of a requirement engineer and perform requirement development activities following SCRUM, an agile methodology.
Project Objectives- A 3D simulation game
- Simulation of requirement development (Elicitation, Analysis, Specification and Validation) activities using Scrum methodology
- Multiplayer functionality in the game
- Core objective is to teach Scrum methodology to students through game-based learning
The project is also implemented using Agile's Scrum Methodology, where the project is shown iteratively and incrementally to our supervisor. It is continually improved based on several feedbacks. The game is developed in versions which are updated frequently. We also maintain a Product Backlog to identify which major tasks are needed to be performed.
Benefits of the ProjectScrum is a practical methodology, but it is only taught theoretically to students which makes it difficult for them to comprehend its key concept. Hence, it should be taught more by application. Our project provides:
- Software engineering education for audience of the game.
- Help in learning SCRUM with Requirement Development techniques.
- Use of this game in classroom provides an active learning technique for Agile software processes, which the software industry currently prefers and uses. Therefore, the students are more engaged with games and thereby absorb the concepts better.
For game development, our project is built using Unity gaming engine and the scripting is done in C#.
The characters, environment, scenes, dialogues and assets are all developed, placed or maintained using on Unity.
The multiplayer part of the game will be done using Photon Networking of Unity, which will provide its server in order to connect players playing our game in realtime.
The AI part of the game is developed using Python and is integrated with C#. This part is based on NLP, where it will analyze an input given by the user and find its semantic similarity.
