Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryA lab automation system is a system, which accommodates automation, monitoring, and control of appliances in a lab. These functionalities provide flexibility for the user to control and monitor lab appliances wirelessly from the wireless local area network to the internet network. Lab automation will give you the facility to control doors, windows, curtains, and other electrical devices like lights, and fans in your lab (ON/OFF). Remotes can be misplaced or destroyed but each person has his or her system. In this way, users can easily control lab automated devices and security-based systems (camera and smoke sensors) through Web-application. The second module is an Automated Attendance monitoring system with Face Recognition in a real-time background world with a database of students' information. This task is very difficult as the real-time background subtraction in an image is still a challenge.
Project ObjectivesAutomation is a term used to define those things that work electronically and mechanically at the push of a button on the remote control or other mobile devices. Today, you can automate hardware devices via android software and web applications. It is possible to operate large machines and home appliances; it is also possible to record the temperature with a sensor. Lab automation gives you the facility to control lights, fans, and other electrical devices like computers in your lab (you can turn on and off electrical appliances) remotely by using a web application or android application. Not only just that we automate other things too like doors, windows, and curtains by using some circuits and hardware. We are also going to develop an attendance system that will work on facial recognition that will mark the attendance by scanning faces. We use special types of sensors or cameras for security maintenance. This project (Technology) allows devices and other things like (doors, windows, and curtains) in your Lab to connect to a remotely controllable network. This technology makes life easier for users and saves energy by using devices of the highest priority and importance. Devices can be controlled as easily as turning off the lights with remote control, or it can be as complicated as setting up a network of elements that can be programmed to control via a smartphone and websites from anywhere in the world. This allows devices in your home to connect to a remotely controllable network.
Project Implementation MethodFor Hardware Part:
Fabrication:The main part of the home automation system based on IoT is the microcontroller. A node microcontroller unit (NodeMCU) Wi-Fi-based controller board is an open-source platform for IoT applications and is used as the main microcontroller in this project. NodeMCU is used to gather data obtained by sensors and upload the data to the IoT server. In addition, this microcontroller receives commands given by users via smartphones/laptops to perform specific tasks.

NodeMCU consists of a physical programmable circuit board similar to any other development board such as Arduino or Raspberry Pi. NodeMCU can be programmed on Arduino software, which is an integrated development environment (IDE) to write the instruction codes and uploads them to the microcontroller.
We can convert this system into a real-world by making it a proper setup by using higher performance batteries and motors for opening and closing the doors, windows, curtains, etc. While the ON/OF option is already in the real world because a 220V bulb is used and a Fan also.
The camera module helps in security confirmation so that, we can see whether there is an unknown person or any unusual activity has taken place. A smoke sensor is capable to detect any kind of smoke in the whole system.
For Attendance System:
A local Binary Pattern is a simple yet very efficient texture operator which labels the pixels of an image by thresholding the neighborhood of each pixel and considers the result as a binary number.
We need to also set an ID for each image, so the algorithm will use this information to recognize an input image and give you an output.
• Then, we convert this binary value to a decimal value and set it to the central value of the matrix, which is actually a pixel from the original image.
4. Extracting the Histograms: Now, using the image generated in the last step, we can use the Grid X and Grid Y parameters to divide the image into multiple grids,
The final histogram represents the characteristics of the image original image.
We are creating this application instead of the remote control for automation. This is because each person has an Android smartphone, which allows them to easily control their home appliances and other things like (doors, windows, and curtains), we use a special types of sensors or cameras for security. Remotes can be misplaced or destroyed. Another reason is that it is difficult to carry a remote device when you are at home, but you always carry your cell phone with you. In this way, users can easily control lab automated devices and security-based systems (camera or special type of sensors) through Android mobile phones. In short, technology is in one website and app in the palm of your hand.
